Sculpturalities: Grammar(s) of Matter

In its historical and conceptual trajectory, it is inevitable to address sculpture without confronting the ready-made and assemblage. What do these practices— which in some respects are media in themselves—reveal about their own nature? Does raw material always disappear within the idea of the artwork, or does it continue to carry meaning? Can we ultimately do without the object? Ultimately, how does each material—beyond its plastic function—become a vehicle for thinking about form, about the artistic gesture, and more broadly about the very condition of art itself?
