The depth in the works of Stefan Hertmans is only rarely equaled by writers in our language area. Our reading circle read “War and Turpentine”, “De Bekeerlinge”, and “The Ascent” by him. All three books have roots in the writer's personal life. So too does “Dius”, his latest novel, in which Anton follows in Hertmans’ footsteps as an art teacher. A deep friendship grows between the seasoned art connoisseur and Dius, an inspired student: one observes, the other creates ART. The mutual love inflicts wounds, leaves its mark on both of them, there is so much loss. With his most recent book, Hertmans opens a true ”Paleis van Schone Kunsten”, whose works appeal to the reader and whose story penetrates page after page. The internet shows the way through this museum. In collaboration with the Bibliotheek van Wijnegem
