The ukulele (pronounced: [jukəlɪlə]) has been an incredibly popular instrument for years. A frequently heard explanation of the word is that ukulele is Hawaiian for "jumping flea." However, there are also other explanations for the meaning of ukulele... During this theme day, we bring people together annually around everything to do with ukulele music. Whether you want to learn more, want to play, or just want to enjoy the music, there is something for everyone! The program offers an engaging mix of workshops, a lecture, a double concert, a jam, and much more... What can you expect? 🎼 Workshops (2 PM) ukulele for adult beginners: Karl Catteeuw helps you get started with your first, and also most fun, songs. ukulele for children (6 to 12 years old): Ann Van den Wyngaert teaches the first steps. swing ukulele for advanced players: swing along with Sage Harrington and take a dive into jazzy rhythms, charming melodies, and pure playing fun. 📖 Lecture (3 PM) Philippe Gemgembre is the driving force behind the ' Petit Musée itinérant de l’Ukulélé français et d’ailleurs' . With his unique collection of historical ukuleles, he takes you on a fascinating journey through the history of the instrument: from Europe to the furthest islands. Expect a lively lecture with stories, images, and musical fragments, in which heritage, passion, and humor come together. Note: in French. 🎶 Concert: Sage Harrington (4 PM) Swinging ukulele jazz straight from the Golden Era. With her warm voice, vintage flair, and playful humor, she turns every song into a small time travel. Expect charming jazz, original songs, and an irresistible stage presence: quirky, elegant, and wonderfully light-footed! https://sageharrington.com/ 🎶 Concert: Nele Needs A Holiday (4:50 PM) The musical alter ego of Nele Van den Broeck takes you into stories that are funny, moving, and sometimes surprisingly quirky. Come browse for second-hand instruments, cases, accessories, knick-knacks, … 🍽️ food truck (5:30 PM - 7:30 PM) Hungry? Enjoy Moroccan cuisine at the food truck of De Koezina . 🎵 Ukulele Jam (from 5:30 PM) We end the day with a cozy ukulele jam! Steph Van Uytvanck will lead everyone. Bring your instrument and join in, everyone can join, beginners and advanced players alike. 🎸 Borrow a ukulele? No problem: Muziekclub 't Ey makes ukuleles available for those who don't have one themselves. 🎟 Price One price for everything: €12 (access to workshops, lecture, and concerts included). Free from 5:30 PM! 👉 Participation in the workshops With your day ticket, you can participate in one of the three workshops. You do not need to make a choice in advance.
