Marine Schneider is a young yet already prolific Belgian author-illustrator, with about thirty books to her credit. Her graphic universe stands out for its vibrant and contrasting color palettes, capable of setting contemplative atmospheres, dreamlike moods, and powerful natures. She skillfully blends numerous artistic techniques (watercolor, pencil, marker, pastel, collage, etc.) to create rich and sensitive images. Her stories emerge where reality brushes against a dream. They bring to life landscapes that are both vast and intimate, inhabited by mountains, forests, islands, villages, and houses, populated by beings who observe one another, seek each other out, and meet.
The exhibition Îles, conceived around her work, offers an immersion into five of her notable books: Blaireau (Pastel, 2020), Pas plus haut que trois pommes (Pastel, 2021), Presque une histoire de loup (Pastel, 2023) for toddlers, and Hekla et Laki (Albin Michel Jeunesse, 2022), as well as Minik (Albin Michel Jeunesse, 2024), for older children.
Between natural environments and habitats, between originals and materials, the scenographic journey invites visitors to enter the artist's universe as one enters a book, guided by colors, shapes, rhythms, words, and silences.
