Avec Eleni Chronopoulou and Tristan Driessens Le duo formed by Eleni CHRONOPOULOU (voice) and Tristan DRIESSENS (oud) presents a repertoire of Sephardic music from the Eastern Mediterranean in dialogue with Greek songs from Asie Mineure. After its expulsion from Spain in 1492, the Jewish community settled in the territories of the Ottoman Empire and has preserved its culture and language to this day. Born in Andalusia, Sephardic music is sung in Ladino (Spanish dialect) and responds to the characteristics of classical Arabic music. The two musicians have selected songs that will offer you a journey from Andalusia to Istanbul via Rhodes, Smyrna (Izmir), and Thessaloniki in dialogue with songs from Asie Mineure (present-day Turkey). The concert aims to bring a message of peace that binds communities through music. ***** Tristan DRIESSENS is a Belgian oud player, composer, and musicologist. Between 2009 and 2015, he stayed in Istanbul where he was trained by the great master Necati Çelik. Back in Belgium, he obtained a master's degree in Turkish 'ûd at Institut Lemmens de Louvain and a master's degree in musicology at Université Libre de Belgique, both with the highest distinction. Eleni CHRONOPOULOU is a Greek opera singer (soprano).
