Romeo & Julia I A new, inclusive theater production by Comp. Marius and Het Scheldeoffensief Why so much hate? Why so little love? Against a dark background of hate and prejudice, two young people fight for a free experience of love and intimacy. In Romeo & Julia, love is sung and skirts are peeked under, weddings are improvised and nocturnal escapades organized, dishes are thrown and doors are slammed, and finally, lovers are carried to the grave. This new, inclusive theater production by Comp. Marius and Het Scheldeoffensief gives a contemporary and intergenerational voice to an immortal love story. In this adaptation, a large and at times ridiculous family feud masks an underlying social challenge. How autonomous can/may you have love and sexual feelings and act on them? And what if others see you as different or you experience yourself as different? When does care and concern from parents and others lapse into sexual discrimination? And how honest dare and can parents, young people, and children communicate about intimacy and being different? Voor Romeo & Julia, Comp.Marius and Het Scheldeoffensief join forces. Comp.Marius is skilled in location work and adapts both classical plays and novels, with a preference for comedies with an existential, philosophical layer.
