The Cocanha duo comes to shake up our relationship with folklore, this cultural notion steeped in taboos. For the two female musicians – Lila Fraysse and Caroline Dufau –, it is a political space to be reinvested: folklore to situate oneself, tell one's story, give a new resonance to exotic myths and fantasies of authenticity.
Traditional Occitan musics are at the source of the creation. From collected fragments and motifs emanate original melodies and texts, in plays of composition, transformation, and adaptation. They evoke both subversive Occitan memories and current struggles.
Cocanha continues its sound experiments with the voice and string tambourines, and fulfills a function: that of making people dance, gathering them together, fueling a joyful struggle, that of the reappropriation of the common good and its sharing. Singing then becomes a chronicle of the present, a waking daydream, an embodied act, a proposition for inhabiting.
