Showing off Wigs

Het Merghelynck Museum is the least known but perhaps most surprising museum in Ypres. Opened in 1894, it is the creation of Jonkheer Arthur Merghelynck. He wanted to illustrate the lifestyle of the nobility at the end of the 18th century. The salons and rooms are packed with art and utensils, making it seem as if the original inhabitants left the premises just 5 minutes ago. In the spring and summer of 2026, the exhibition 'Showing off with wigs' focuses on the fashion phenomenon that gave its name to the Age of Wigs.
