EMPTINESS EMPTINESS is a Belgian band founded in Brussels in 1998, whose artistic approach has been built around a radical exploration of the darkest forms of metal. Originally anchored in the aesthetics of black and death metal, the band very early on developed an open approach, marked by experimentation and the refusal of rigid frameworks. After two initial demos that were noted in the underground scene, EMPTINESS gradually imposed a singular identity through a series of albums that attracted attention beyond extreme circles, from Guilty to Exist to Nothing but the Whole. Their music gained density and complexity there, while maintaining a constant tension between brutality and more diffuse atmospheres. Avec Not For Music (2017), recorded in their own Blackout Studio then finalized with Jeordie White (Twiggy Ramirez) and mixed by Sean Beavan, the band pushed its work on sound textures and oppressive atmospheres even further. EMPTINESS thus continues to shape a universe on the border of extreme metal and experimentation, where darkness and sound research advance in concert.
