Comédie explorer | Création
Une crazy expedition, between adventure, precariousness, and friendship.
Douglas Mawson, thirty years old, a Brussels unemployed man accustomed to a bar on Place Rouppe, is suffocating in a life without prospects. One day, he learns of the possible existence of a village never discovered in the heart of Antarctica. Without preparation, driven by a mixture of hope and naivety, he decides to go in search of it.
He then gathers an improbable team met at the café: an elderly arthritic pianist, a woman with superhuman strength, and a quiet philosopher capable of healing souls. Together, they leave Brussels for an expedition as thrilling as it is dangerous. But they may not be the only ones looking for this lost village...
Through the codes of the adventure novel, Le Groupe of the Far West tells a zany odyssey where cold, hunger, and crevasses threaten at every moment.
Between absurd comedy and exploration narrative, the play questions the need for adventure of a generation stuck between precariousness, bureaucracy, and loss of bearings. Because if their quest seems insane, it poses a simple question: must one succeed for the journey to have meaning?
Le Groupe of the Far West is the first play by Merlin Vervaet, a young author from Namur, to be published by Lansman Editions. Awarded two literary prizes, this text also immediately seduced us, and it is with joy that we embarked on its creation.
