Polyphony, thought, and heritage in the 16th century As part of the Brussels Renaissance Festival, the musical commune of Schaerbeek highlights different aspects of this period: the historical and musical context (conferences), the then-dominant Flemish polyphony (concert of Utopia Ensemble), and contemporary jazz (the ambassador MUZIK1030 and Schaerbeekois Toine Thys meets colleagues of early music). With the "pay what you can" principle, we make the Renaissance accessible to everyone. Dr Hendrik Vanden Abeele offers listening keys beforehand to hear this music differently. 6.06 – Guided tour and documentary: Basses Danses Dr Ann Kelders – curator, KBR museum The rare manuscript of the Basses Danses de Marguerite of Austria (KBR, ms. 9085) is the most important and complete source for the "basse danse" of the 15th century. A guided tour and a documentary will help you discover the history of this unique black manuscript, written in gold and silver ink. 10.06 – Concert: Demi-Consort Toine Thys (saxophones), Raphaël Collignon (keyboard), Pieter Vandeveire (viola da gamba), Sofie Vanden Eynde (lute) The Schaerbeek jazzman Toine Thys engages in a musical dialogue with three colleagues of early music. Gathered especially for Resonance Renaissance, this half-consort bridges the 16th century to today, through a reinterpretation of the ancient art of "diminutio" (a form of improvisation).
