Brussels Ekiden

Marathon is a team sport in the Brussels Ekiden Elk year, about a thousand teams descend on the Koning Boudewijnstadion for the Brussels Ekiden, which takes place this year on Saturday, October 17. Ekiden teams consist of six runners, who together cover the marathon distance of 42.195 km. The first, the third, and the fifth runner each take 5 km for their account, the second and the fourth runner 10 km, and the final runner covers the remaining 7.195 km. Each runner runs a lap on the magical track of the Koning Boudewijnstadion. The exchanges do not happen with a relay baton, but with a special relay sash. This so-called 'tasuki' hangs – for those who want to do it according to the rules of the art – from the shoulder, diagonally across the chest, to the hip. De Ekiden is always an exciting competition, because the success of the team depends on each of the six runners. Everyone on the team therefore has an important function. That is also why this competition is popular with companies, but you can just as well participate with a team of six friends or family members.
