Memorials + Opening Night

MEMORIALS Memorials is an experimental avant-pop band from Canterbury (UK), with a psychedelic sound that is as melodic as it is unconventional. Their inspiration comes from all corners of the musical spectrum: folk, post-punk, cosmic music, spiritual jazz, dub, and prog rock. Zangeres Verity Susman sometimes reminds one of Nico, but as if Can were playing behind her instead of The Velvet Underground. Together with Matthew Simms, she builds the songs of Memorials with psychedelically buzzing vintage synths, motorik beats, and tape and dub effects . The best part is that all that playfulness never gets in the way of a good song. On the contrary: Memorials is catchy and gets you moving immediately.  In 2024, the duo released their debut album Memorial Waterslides on the fine indie label FIRE Records (Throwing Muses, Sebadoh, Tropical Fuck Storm, Royal Trux…). The follow-up, All Clouds Bring Not Rain, is scheduled for March 2026. Come discover them in Cactus Café! OPENING NIGHT Opening Night gently takes you to a funny, dark place where anything is possible. There is a woman who whispers melodies , records her breath and repeats it, and shouts words . She is surrounded by two guitars , half a drum kit , and a suitcase full of rattles, bells, sticks, and brushes . Who knows what these people are looking for, but they build small harmonic forests and let everything, living or dead, pass through them. Kathy Vanhout was previously half of Imaginary Sister . Bert Dockx and Louis Evrard strum and drum, repeat and scream around her.
