Grote Markt, Dendermonde
De Wintertuin of the Ursulines, the art nouveau pearl near Mechelen. Did you know that it is always spring in the Winter Garden thanks to the glorious dome of stained glass windows? Dat de Wintertuin is the largest publicly accessible art nouveau site in the country? Dat de Wintertuin was part of a girls' school with international allure? And that the Winter Garden has been a protected monument for 40 years?
De Koninklijke Manufactuur De Wit, founded in 1889, world leader in the field of conserving tapestries for museums and private individuals. A specialized guide tells about the fascinating world of tapestry art. Cleaning, purchasing, and conserving an international collection of old and modern tapestries is the mission of the Koninklijke Manufactuur.
The historic building and the garden also receive full attention. The 15th-century refuge of the Abdij van Tongerlo is the unique historical setting where the valuable tapestry collection is presented. We continue the tour in the studio where the tapestries are restored: creativity, technique, craft, history, art, and beauty, everything comes together there !
