Aperitif concert - “Three prominent Tongeren artists in the spotlight”

In 2026, Basilica Concerts celebrates three striking people from Tongeren who each in their own way left a lasting mark on the art and culture world in Belgium and Europe. Componist Jean Lambrechts celebrates his 90th birthday on July 1st. A milestone for a musical personality who managed to inspire generations with his compositions and artistic vision. His birthday is the direct reason for programming this aperitif concert. We also commemorate Philippe Boesmans, who would have turned 90 on May 17, 2026. As an internationally acclaimed composer, he left behind an impressive oeuvre that helped shape contemporary music. In addition, we reflect on Raf Verjans, visual artist and goldsmith, who was born on May 12, 1935, and would celebrate his 90th birthday in 2025. His artistic craftsmanship and unique design language continue to evoke admiration to this day.
