Temporary exhibition: "Le Moyen Age in comics"

mar. 4 août 2026 · 10:00
Maison du patrimoine médiéval mosan, Dinant
The exhibition Le Moyen Age in Comics depicts how medieval society has been or is represented in contemporary comics. Without aiming to be exhaustive, it provides a fascinating panorama of some one hundred medievalist productions in Belgium and France, from Prince Vaillant in the 1930s to the current adaptation of The Pillars of the Earth, via publications in Spirou and Tintin magazines from the mid-20th century onwards. The exhibition was conceived in 2019 by Jacques Verstraeten, a medieval historian from Hut, with the collaboration of Nicolas Stetenfeld, scientific attaché at the Bibliothèque des Littératures d'Aventure (BiLA). In addition to informative content, it features a series of reproductions of plates from various comic books ("Le trône d'argile", "Arnaud de Casteloup", "Chevalier Ardent", "Les compagnons du crépuscule", "Isabelle" or "Gardiens du Bierzo"). The exhibition will be accompanied, at the Mpmm, by the presentation of original plates by Belgian artists and illustrators Thierry Cayman, Jean-Claude Servais and Marc-Renier. -Poster design: Orval, J.-C.
