1000-species day in Ghent city center

Finding 1000 different species of animals and plants in 24 hours; that is the goal! This time not in a nature reserve, but within the Ghent city ring, i.e., the city center. You might think that few plants and animals feel at home here. But the urban ecosystem is very varied, and some species have adapted excellently. Still, it will be exciting to effectively find 1000 species. We are therefore calling on everyone to help search and enter observations on waarnemingen.be. This year, the base of operations is Bijlokesite. Since the local cultural partners are very curious about what lives on the site, we are holding a mini-bioblitz to find 300 species within the site. We are also organizing a whole bunch of guided walks and showcase moments to introduce everyone to different species groups in an accessible way. Also expect somewhat different-than-usual activities such as a reflective bike ride, a philosophical conversation, a film evening, a bird concert, an art project about waste,… You can find the program at the bottom of this page.
