"OPEN CHURCH" WEEKEND June 5, 6, and 7, 2026 🌟 Big book fair to benefit the restoration of Saint-Denys Church On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the Saint-Denys de Grand-Axhe church is throwing its doors wide open to the public during the "Open Church" weekend, June 5, 6, and 7, 2026. This friendly and charitable event will be marked by the organization of a big book fair, the proceeds of which will be entirely dedicated to the restoration of this iconic building. Built between 1870 and 1872 by architect Jean-Lambert Blandot-Gryaet, Saint-Denys Church is a remarkable example of neo-Gothic architecture. It is distinguished by an exceptional collection of furniture and decor, born from the wishes of parish priest Émile Gillis and the talent of renowned artists. Its marouflé paintings richly testify to the religious sentiment of the 19th century and constitute a unique artistic heritage. For several months, major work has been undertaken to preserve this place steeped in history: roof repairs, cleaning of the attic, consolidation of the choir vault, restoration of the canvases... This large-scale project is made possible thanks to the joint commitment of a passionate architectural firm, the church council, as well as the valuable support of the AWaP, the Province, and the Municipality. A few years ago, the church escaped demolition thanks to the mobilization of the residents. Even today, its preservation relies on a collective effort. Beyond its religious vocation, it constitutes a major cultural and artistic heritage to be passed on to future generations. 📚 A big charitable book fair In this context, a large book collection is being organized. Novels, comics, children's books, thrillers, historical works, cookbooks, DIY books, or manga: all donations in good condition are welcome. 📍 Book drop-off Starting Monday, April 27, 2026, directly in the church (under the table on the right, at the back). 💡 Visitors are invited to plan for cash payments; no electronic payment will be available. 🤝 A participatory project All willing hands are encouraged to join this citizen initiative. Volunteers, donors, or simple visitors: everyone can contribute to bringing this unifying project to life. Because "little streams make big rivers," every gesture counts to preserve this common heritage. Saint-Denys de Grand-Axhe Marc Jadot Tél Church Council: 0495 / 58 00 54
