After his mother's death, his father took him out of school to herd the sheep and take care of his little brother, a brother who hasn't said a word since mom's death. When Wanneer Ahmet accidentally stumbles upon an illegal rave, a completely unknown world opens up for him: he starts dreaming of a career as a DJ, and installs a boombox on his tractor as a start. Becoming a DJ seems like a completely hopeless dream in the ultra-conservative village, just as impossible as his love for the beautiful, free-spirited Aya, a girl who is already betrothed. Moreover, his father has discovered a very serious problem: during all his musical – and love adventures, Ahmet has lost a sheep… The way the colorful ‘DJ AHMET’ came about was just as bumpy and unlikely as the path to the DJ career of its main character (COVID! No money! Production problems!), but after more than six years, the film could finally be shot for less than a million euros in a few tiny villages in North Macedonia. And behold: this blissful, funny, swinging, and disarming crowd-pleaser immediately grew into the hit of the Sundace Festival (the Cannes van Amerika, so to speak) at its premiere, where it not only won the Audience Award but also received a mountain of glowing press reviews. After that, this blissful, funny crowd-pleaser simply continued its international triumphal march, now also to Belgium, and more specifically Mechelen.
