Mariinka - Pieter-Jan De Pue

In Oost-Ukraine, the lives of childhood friends are violently disrupted by a shifting front. Natasha, a promising boxing talent, becomes a military nurse. Angela, who lost her parents at a young age, keeps her head above water by transporting goods to both sides of the front. Trapped in a modern Greek tragedy, brothers Mark and Ruslan are now fighting on opposite sides of the front – against each other. In the safety of his adoptive family in the Verenigde Staten, their youngest brother Daniil follows the war from a distance. Mariinka , filmed on 16 mm over ten years, begins long before the world witnessed the large-scale invasion. It is the long-awaited second feature film by Pieter-Jan De Pue, after his Sundance-awarded debut 'The Land of the Enlightened'.
