Vertelling Nyira Hens

Nyira Hens is a theater maker, actress, and creative mother of non-profit Be Human and the driving force behind "RZM", Rwanda and so much more, where she works on stories about identity and social injustice. On the occasion of the opening of the d r o o m |t| h u i s exhibition, Nyira tells the story of Boom Toudou, an African version of the Cinderella fairy tale. A girl who has lost her mother and grandmother is raised by an evil stepmother who forces her to perform all kinds of ungrateful and heavy tasks. Night after night, she has to fetch water from a lake surrounded by wild animals. Fortunately, she has Toudou, a tree that her late grandmother planted for her, which gives her comfort and advice. Even when the evil stepmother burns the tree in her anger, Toudou protects her unconditionally. And as in all fairy tales, it ends well in the end.
