What happens when three young writers decide to bring Virginie Loveling, an almost forgotten Flemish author, back to life? One word: heartbreak. In their show De Virginie Loveling Heartbreak Show, the hearts of Mees van Rijswijk, Johannes Lievens and Marieke Ornelis are broken by bad boys, mummy issues, the nation state, zombies and memories that just won’t go away. In a mix of stories, songs and poetry, literary collective HYPERPOËZIE delves into literary history and, at the same time, into their own funny, dark and top-secret dating past. In her novel Een Revolverschot (1911), Virginie Loveling (1836–1923) describes how two sisters, caught up in a complicated game of love, are seduced by the same man and subsequently murder him. Today, this story of power struggles, family ties and gender-based violence reads as relevant as ever.
