Gabrielle Mogenet offers an intimate and refocused experience in the Greenhouses. Returning to the space of the frame, the artist deploys a meticulous assembly work where traditional painting mingles with dyed, sewn, and then stretched textiles. A more tactile journey, which gives pride of place to accidents and transparency. Her canvases do not tell a story: they contain thousands of them, superimposed like memories impossible to sort. It is euphoria, the intoxication of joyful phenomena that teem in her experience of a kind of wild marvelous. The gaze enters the painting as one enters a crowd or a profusion: without a center, without rest, caught by intersecting interfaces. And at the heart of this meticulous chaos, a breath sometimes appears. Everything is played out in the discreet tension between light and disappearance. Gabrielle Mogenet works with absence as much as presence. She searches through the layers of the visible as one searches for a memory buried under the dust of years. Each canvas seems to contain something that refuses to fully reveal itself. Her muted colors, her transparencies, and her successive erasures give the whole a meditative depth: that of being in front of an image that is disappearing or perhaps being born.
