Resistance by Bicycle to the sounds of a unique bicycle brass band

As a reminder of the courageous young people of that time who resisted an authoritarian regime, we are organizing this daring bike ride one more time. We will make it a party, accompanied by a unique bicycle brass band. In this way, we spread the message of freedom and peace. We depart on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM from WWII museum Liberation Garden . Are you cycling along? On May 10, 1940, Nazi Duitsland Belgi occupies. Freedoms are taken away. Those who resist are dealt with harshly by the occupier. Nevertheless, courageous young people from the mining region unite in protest in the Club der Patriotten. On June 11, 1941, about sixty of them flock together on bicycles in Leopoldsburg. They refuse to stay silent any longer. They pin on a ribbon with the forbidden Belgian colors. At the head of the procession rides a young man with a Belgian flag. With bells and whistles, they leave for Tessenderlo. Upon arrival, the young people are met by German soldiers. They receive heavy blows, and some end up in prison. Later, a number of them join the armed resistance. For one of them, Martinus Daniels from Beringen, it will even cost him his life in 1944. The guided bike ride starts on June 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM sharp at the WWII museum Liberation Garden, to the sounds of Velofanfare Neanias. The end is scheduled around 5:00 PM, again at Liberation Garden (Koningin Louisa-Marialaan 2, 3970 Leopoldsburg). In the museum garden, you will find pop-up bar LiBARation – the ideal place to start or end with a pleasant drink and a tasty snack, for those who wish. Report in advance to the reception of the WWII museum. There we will scan your ticket and you will receive a participation pin with a ribbon in the Belgian tricolor and a brochure . Participants in the bike ride can also visit Liberation Garden at a partner rate (3 euros discount on the adult rate). Do you want to combine a visit to Liberation Garden with the bike ride on the same day? Then plan the museum visit in the morning (10:00 AM to 12:00 PM). The discount remains valid for a year, so you can also plan the visit at a later time. There is covered bicycle parking for the museum. The bike ride is fully guided and is approximately 38 km long , as much as possible via the bicycle route network. Along the way, a few short stops with explanations are provided. Halfway through, we will take a break at Het Loo in Tessenderlo.
