Mayotte, island under domination

December 2024, Comoros archipelago. Cyclone Chido devastates Mayotte, sweeping away in a few hours the precarious dwellings where 100,000 people live. While the climate crisis boosted the cyclone's power, it is not enough to explain the scale of the devastation. 1975. La France tears Mayotte from the rest of the Comoros, a long process of colonial dispossession transforms the island into a department-colony marked by great poverty, inequality, and state repression. From a point of view forged by an experience as activists and legal workers in Mayotte, the documentary goes to meet the island's inhabitants to collect their words, their anger, their resignation, and their daily resistance.
