Musical hair currents | When body hair lets itself be listened to
mar. 1 déc. 2026 · 20:00
Rue Traverse 9, Trois-Ponts
Hairiness and hair are much more than simple aesthetic attributes. They constitute, in many musical currents, a true identity marker and an extension of artistic discourse. This musical conference proposes a musicological and sociological approach to different sound cultures through their hair codes.
From reggae dreadlocks to punk mohawks, from long and disheveled grunge hair to shaved cuts associated with techno scenes, passing through the hair choreographies of the Raqs Al Nasha’at in the Gulf countries or the representations of afrofuturism in jazz, each example will be analyzed in its historical, social, and musical context.
Illustrated by the commented listening of iconic works, this one-hour meeting will highlight the subtle links between bodily aesthetics, musical practices, and the construction of cultural identities.
This exhibition takes place in the "A REBROUSSE-POIL" (Against the Grain) program offered in Trois-Ponts and Stavelot from August 30 to December 1, 2026.
