Daguitstap Antwerpen (art deco, the Six, ...)

Het Instituut for Tropische Geneeskunde is known worldwide for its education, research, and service in tropical medicine and public health. We pursue these objectives in two beautiful protected monuments. The main building is an Art Deco pearl from 1933. Here you will find the research department, the hospital, and the general services. Even in the hall, you can soak up the typical Art Deco style : the high ceiling, the wide stairs in black and gray marble, and the soberly decorated white copper stair railings. This year, MoMu is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the international breakthrough of the Zes van Antwerpen with a large-scale exhibition. For the first time, an official exhibition is dedicated to these six iconic designers. The exhibition highlights the unique path that connects the six designers. It started with their education at the Koninklijke Academie for Schone Kunsten in Antwerp and resulted in six influential solo careers. Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, and Marina Yee put Antwerp on the fashion map when they showed their collections at the British Designer Show in London in 1986. This led to their international breakthrough and established Antwerp's reputation as a fashion city. Their idiosyncratic designs influence the fashion world to this day. Winding through Oud Antwerpen Tussen Sint-Jansvliet and Suikerrui You can best feel the old Antwerp in the streets between the Sint-Jansvliet and the Suikerrui. Thanks to our very own time machine, we discover the big and small stories behind the streets and buildings. Was de Stoofstraat a red-light district? And was the Napoleon bonbon invented in the Hoogstraat? Surprises are once again not excluded!
