The word “impasse” is said to have been invented by Voltaire, irritated by the vulgarity of the word “cul-de-sac”.
In Brussels, these narrow and dead-end alleys were counted by the hundreds! Microcosms of society, they welcomed the small trades of the street: ragpickers, scrap metal dealers, tavern keepers, knife grinders, lacemakers, and many others. Their names evoke the past of the neighborhood, but also its legends. Du Marché at Fromage at Rempart des Moines, we will shed full light on the impasses!
This visit is organized as part of the Slow Ways Week-End 2026.
