Promises must be kept! The previous album by ‘Mama’s Jasje’ from 2023 was called ‘Het Beste Moet Nog Komen’. With their new record, ‘Ik Heb Wel Eens The Blues’, Peter Vanlaet has not lied. Over the past two years, Peter wrote a bunch of new songs with a clear vision, a well-thought-out plan. “I wanted a record, which in my opinion has not been made before in Flanders,” says Peter. The Blues is more than a music genre, it is also a feeling. In songs like “Aan een onbekende ziel”, and “Alleen maar” you hear that profound melancholy. If you listen to “Mijn dag die net begon”, “Huidhonger”, “Vanuit de onderbuik” or to the pure biography “Maak van je shit een hit”, you notice that classic Blues riffs are the approach of perhaps the best Mama’s Jasje album ever. Inspired by songwriters like Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits and other heroes, Peter brings songs from this new album with his five-piece band. The classics of Mama’s Jasje are also wrapped in a dough of groaning blues notes in this performance.
