I met you once, I loved you twice

Long ago, people had four legs, four arms, two heads, and two sets of genitals. Their shape was round. They resembled their ancestors: the sun, the earth, and the moon. Until they were split in two. Since then, they have spent the rest of their lives searching for their lost other half. ‘I met you once, I loved you twice’ starts from Plato's myth about the lost other halves. This visual performance shows the desire to love and the distrust that makes this love impossible. In an age of disinformation where the truth seems irrelevant, it is becoming increasingly difficult to know what is real and who you can still trust. Judith Engelen builds a world with sculptures and new technologies where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur.
