Agatan Sax, Lunch concert

Agatan Saks is the musical project of guitarist Jo Morato and saxophonist Pieter Ruebens. Together, they create a unique universe full of warm sounds, energetic rhythms, and surprising twists. Their sound is driven by improvisation and immersive soundscapes, spicy-seasoned with influences from everywhere and nowhere. The project originated from spontaneous jam sessions that literally took place on the streets of Ghent. Although many other musicians participated in these sessions, the synergy between Pieter and Jo was obvious from the start. After a few non-committal, unprepared exploits, they decided to take it seriously. In February 2024, they dived into the rehearsal room for the first time. Starting completely from scratch, they wrote and refined their new material intensively to make their debut less than three months later. On April 27, 2024, they stood on stage for the first time at Café De Loge in Ghent. On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of Café De Loge and also in the context of Lokale Helden. A packed café saw and heard that it was more than good and looked back afterwards with glowing words. Studio Brussel even came to take a peek and granted them their first airplay. For their name, they sought inspiration from the youth book series “Agaton Sax” from the 50s, in which a master detective searches for the alleged truth in his own idiosyncratic way. Upright, unpredictable, quirky, a bit anarchic, and not without a touch of irony. Let those be exactly the traits that Jo and Pieter believe they recognize in themselves.
