Solidarity with Cuba: Cuban meal, documentary, Conversation & Action against the Blockade

After an authentic meal prepared by Cubans , we open the evening with the documentary Todo Guantánamo es Nuestro . Afterward, we will talk with Hernando Calvo Ospina (filmmaker) and Katrien Demuynck , who was recently in Cuba and shares her experiences. We conclude the evening in a warm atmosphere with Cuban music . Toen Cuba at the end of the 19th century, as one of the last countries in Latin America to have almost completed its liberation from Spanish colonization, the US stuck a foot in the door. They came to ‘help’ and thus achieved that the island went from being a colony of Spain to a neocolony of the US. The American military base at Guantanamo in southeastern Cuba dates from that period. That base is not only a flagrant violation of Cuban sovereignty, it is also to this day a center of torture and illegal detention of ‘enemies’ of the US. The documentary ‘Todo Guantanamo es nuestro’ (36 min., Dutch subtitled) by Hernando Calvo Ospina tells the story of this illegal base. Hernando Calvo Ospina will be present and will update us on the threat of the US today against Cuba. After an economic blockade of more than 60 years, the Trump-Rubio duo is now trying to suffocate the population with a total oil blockade . The goal is still regime change, because the US does not tolerate revolution in its ‘backyard’. Those who want to support Wie Cuba can do so in a fun way by coming to enjoy a Cuban meal at 6:00 PM for the benefit of the ‘Maleta solidaria’ project. This is an initiative of Cuban women in Belgium who give extra suitcases with medical and other essential material to travelers to Cuba to break the blockade.
