Blue Moon

A night in 1943. The brilliant but tormented songwriter Lorenz Hart is sitting in a restaurant in New York in the evening, while a little further away, the musical Oklahoma! by his former partner Rodgers is premiering. During the night, Hart, tormented by alcoholism and depression, is confronted with his past, his loss, and the success of his former partner. Richard Linklater already has 5 Oscar nominations to his name, three of which are for Boyhood, the beautiful 2014 film that was filmed over 12 years. With Blue Moon, he seems to want to break another record, as the film was shot in just fifteen days. With regular actor Ethan Hawke (Before Sunrise), who once again gives a brilliant performance, Blue Moon is a melancholic portrait of a man who continues to struggle with his own legend. By emphasizing dialogue and acting, Blue Moon feels like an intimate play in which every silence gains meaning.
