From the award-winning screenwriter-filmmaker Mona Fastvold (The Brutalist) comes the extraordinary, true legend of Ann Lee, the founder of the Shaker movement. In the 18th century, Ann Lee Manchester flees and proclaims her religious message in the Nieuwe Wereld, which we know today as the Verenigde Staten. Her followers, who worship her as the second incarnation of Christ, believe in a utopian society and practice their faith through music and dance. The Maar de Shaker movement is also plagued by religious persecution in the new continent. The Testament of Ann Lee brings their ecstasy and Lee’s struggle for her utopian dream to life with singing and hypnotic group dance.
