Inspired by The Walking Dead , this commission by the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège takes up a challenge: to prove that opera can still tell universal stories by drawing on the contemporary collective imagination, much like Verdi or Puccini who drew inspiration from the best-selling novels of their time. Far from pastiche, Zombie Opera is an opera in its own right, anchored in the lyrical tradition while embracing the sounds of our time. To write the score, Andrea Battistoni summons the great names of the 20th century (Bernstein, Rota, Sondheim) but also masters of film music (John Williams, Howard Shore, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner).
