West African dance: basics (try-out)

Ever wanted to get a taste of West African dance? In countries like Guinea, Benin, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, where this dance style originates, it is much more than just an outlet or a fun hobby. This dance brings people together, preserves history and cultural heritage, is a source of energy, and influences other dance styles worldwide. In this try-out, we focus on developing a sense of rhythm, impulses, letting go, and developing your own dance language. On the other hand, the repetition of basic movements is important to reach the essence of West African dance: absorbing energy, letting it flow, and giving it back. The way you experience West African dance is independent of technique and is very personal. During this course, you will make the movements your own and discover for yourself how liberating that is.
