L’Impressionnisme, une histoire belgeExpositionL’Impressionnisme, une histoire belgeOn the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the museum of La Boverie, discover how Belgium was one of the most fertile hotbeds of Impressionism. This major exhibition celebrates the audacity of a movement that we think we know, but which still holds many secrets. De Paris in Brussels, then the true capital of the European avant-garde, dive into an unprecedented journey. A unique opportunity to discover nearly one hundred and fifty masterpieces from Belgian and international collections, rarely presented side-by-side. A fruitful dialogue between Belgian and French masters To shed light on this decisive part of European civilization, the journey brings together masterpieces from more than thirty prestigious institutions. More than twenty Belgian museums are joining forces with major international players, such as the Musée d'Orsay or the Petit Palais de Genève. You will have the privilege of admiring unprecedented face-to-face encounters between, for example, the figureheads of our Belgian heritage such as James Ensor, Théo Van Rysselberghe, Anna Boch or Émile Claus and French giants such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir or Alfred Sisley. This hanging also makes it possible to do justice to essential women artists of the movement, like Juliette Wytsman, Yvonne Serruys or even Jenny Montigny, whose talent marked the Impressionist adventure. Innovative scenography at the heart of modernity Thanks to an innovative scenography using cutting-edge technologies, the event offers a real journey through the decades. This aesthetic confrontation reveals how Belgium became an epicenter of European modernity, offering a renewed look at a heritage that has lost none of its luster. The project questions the notions of belonging, visibility, intimacy, and collective life in territories often associated with conservative or heteronormative imaginaries. These communities constitute spaces of resistance, solidarity, and collective invention. Here, photography contributes to the construction of common imaginaries, to the transmission of minority experiences, and to the invention of desirable futures. The texts that accompany the images were written by the people photographed, multiplying the points of view and sharing the authority of the narrative. Presented on silk, the photographs become objects whose lightness and mobility favor flexible circulation, outside of established frameworks.
