Discover the paintings of the Uccle artist Jess Sutton from Thursday, September 17 to Friday, November 6. Born in England, Jess Sutton settled in Belgium in 2011. Her work is inspired by landscapes, the sky, and the plant world. Behind a busy street in Uccle, in Brussels, a completely different universe opens up. Paintings of skies float on the walls of her living room, while a secret, lush, and flowery garden is revealed. Both a garden and a studio, this space has served as a backdrop for video installations and performances, while becoming a true canvas where works created with plants and inspired by them are born. Her most recent series of paintings, Breaking Ground, is directly inspired by this garden. It depicts plants seeming to emerge from the very surface of the canvas. Long before owning her own garden, Jess was already growing dahlias on a tiny three-by-one-meter balcony in Saint-Gilles. Over the years, her need to grow plants and live in contact with nature has intensified, until it became inseparable from her artistic practice. Her film "Observations" is an experimental short film made in collaboration with the Institut Royal Météorologique de Belgique. It explores our personal connection with the sky, this space that connects us all on a planet that is nevertheless fragmented. By crossing borders, the film reveals the poetry of this perpetually moving landscape while highlighting the direct impact of climate change on our world. Screening of the film on 01/10.
