During this special evening, you can visit the museum and let yourself be carried away in the story of Gerard Mercator and the world of cartography. Our enthusiastic guides are ready to provide extra explanation about the collection. MAP – Talk: Dreams are the most reliable map 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM (NL) In 2007, writer Gaea Schoeters and photographer Trui Hanoulle traveled by motorcycle through nine Muslim countries for seven months. In doing so, they followed the trail of the legendary travelers Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Ella Maillart, who crossed the same region almost seventy years earlier. During this lecture, Gaea and Trui take you on a fascinating journey along maps, navigation, and changing borders. They tell how technology has changed travel, from paper maps and compasses to GPS, smartphones, and constant connectivity. Based on their recent travels through Central Asia and Pakistan, they also reflect on the social, geopolitical, and climatic changes of today. In addition, Trui presents her book Baanbreeksters, about women, mobility, and emancipation. An inspiring story about travel, freedom, and the power of movement.
