MusicShitkidShitKid is the project of Åsa Söderqvist, a Swedish artist originally from Gothenburg, whose singular trajectory oscillates between punk urgency, DIY pop, and more melancholic detours. Conceived from the start as a time-limited parenthesis, ShitKid was initially supposed to exist for "five to seven years" before giving way to a more stable life, outside of music.
Between 2016 and her first break, the project unfolded at a frantic pace: lo-fi recordings on a faulty computer, dreamy and strange pop of Fish, introspective minimalism of This Is It, or even the teenage energy of [DETENTION], made with Lina Molarin Eriksson. In parallel, ShitKid established herself on the stages of Roskilde, SXSW, or Way Out West, while attracting critical attention and a discreet but growing cult following.

Incontournable of the national and international scene, the Jazz Station Big Band has become over the years an integral part of the Brussels heritage. Acclaimed by the press and recognized by its peers, the big band has released several albums on the labels Igloo, Hypnote Records, and soon on Step By Records.
Supporting a monthly residency in a club (the Jazz Station) for nearly twenty years had never been seen before in Belgium. But there is more than that: numerous festivals and external venues call upon the big band, which takes the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional guests. De Dinant in Dubai, they crossed swords with, among others, Kenny Werner, Grégoire Maret, Jason Rebello, Emil Viklicky, David Linx,…
It would even seem that the group, reaching its artistic maturity, is only at the genesis of its history. Indeed, their sound is now immediately identifiable, due not only to the unique alchemy between musicians considered the cream of the European crop, but also thanks to the touch of their arrangers. For do not be mistaken: even if this big band gives the impression of Belgian-style lightness, sophistication and deep emotions are always inherent in their music. Inspired by South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the scene transforms into an open forum. Witnesses, performers, and the audience move between words, images, and bodies; past and present collide, touch, and broaden each other. The result is an urgent, uncomfortable, and at the same time disarming invitation to think along, speak along, and take responsibility for the gaze with which we look at "the other."
DIGNITY builds on the international success of Ben Chikha's Truth Commission Trilogy. After PART I – the Belgische Senaat (2018) and PART II – the Nederlandse Eerste Kamer (2024), he and his company Action Zoo Humain take another step toward radical, site-specific political performance. We are not presenting PART III – DIGNITY in 2027 where he had hoped, namely in the Europese Commissie, but rather in a place in Brussels that became a refuge for many undocumented people.
In 2024 and 2025, Ben Chikha and dramaturg Sietske de Vries traveled to Tunisia for thorough research.

Between the music, Maaike Cafmeyer reads personal and fictional letters to these composers. With her characteristic flair, she addresses the masters directly and sheds new light on their work and their time. This creates a larger story, which reaches further than the notes on paper.

MusicCharlie Cunningham soloSince 2015, British singer-songwriter Charlie Cunningham has been steadily building an impressive career. In 2025, he performed his album In Light
with a full band at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. In 2026, he returns to the core: solo, and musically back to his early years in Spain, where he refined his guitar technique.
Intimacy and craftsmanship
Cunningham is renowned for his understated, intimate songs, in which melancholy and rhythm subtly reinforce one another. Playing both piano and nylon-string guitar, he creates a warm and distinctive sound that comes into its own in intimate venues.
Despite being dyslexic – which made reading music almost impossible – he still obtained a music degree. That perseverance took him to Seville, where he immersed himself in flamenco music for three years, working intensively on his guitar technique. Since then, he has released three albums and four EPs, together accounting for more than half a billion streams.
In Light
His latest album, In Light, is a radiant record featuring softly pulsating, organic productions and floating melodies, showcasing his masterful guitar work. The introspective lyrics are deeply moving and strongly resonate with listeners. The arrangements remain understated yet dynamic, featuring surprising key changes, subtle distortions and atmospheric details.
For In Light, Cunningham was joined musically by Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno) on electric guitar and Liam Hutton on drums. Luke Smith (Keaton Henson, Foals, Everything Everything) handled the production and mixing.

INZOZI ZANJYE, 'my dreams' in Kinyarwanda, is a multidisciplinary performance between concert, dance, and theater, which unfolds as a journey through the landscapes of Dushime’s existence.
As an artist of Rwandan descent living in Belgium, she has always moved between two worlds, without ever fully landing in either. This in-betweenness created a deep need to understand where she belongs. During this search, she experienced feelings of displacement and alienation, which sometimes caused a burden that felt greater than her own life. This performance moves through the different rooms that lie within her: her memories, her desire, her grief, and her joy.
She ends up in a dreamscape, a space between the self and the soul, where familiar narratives fade and time falls apart into a non-linear reality. But originally, it was cut from a very different cloth. It was a fast, lively dance that arose from the cross-pollination of different cultures in the overseas Spanish colonies. The lyrics were naughty, spicy or downright obscene; the dance movements suggestive and the music rousing. These forbidden dances were so popular in their time that one could not prevent them from slipping inside even through monastery doors. A striking example of this is the seventeenth-century A la Vida Bona by the Catalan composer Juan Arañés. The song is bursting with scenes that seem to have escaped from a painting by Jeroen Bosch. MusicEuterpe Baroque ConsortWith the Euterpe Baroque Consort, founded in 2007 under the impetus of Bart Rodyns, we return to the beautifully restored Le Picard organ in the Saint George's Church in Boorsem. Georg Friedrich Händel was a renowned composer in his time and inimitable as an organist and improviser. When he settled permanently in London, Handel soon began to publish several series of organ concertos, on the one hand to bridge periods between two larger works, and on the other hand to also lure audiences to oratorios and operas with his own name as a soloist. His 6 concertos op. 4 were published in 1738. Zijn Franse counterpart Michel Corrette also played a prominent role in the development of the keyboard concerto in France. His 6 concertos op. 26 were published 18 years later in 1756. Moreover, Corrette traveled to England, where he undoubtedly heard about the Handel phenomenon. Clara and Martin are up to date with the latest trends, their son is doing fantastic at school, their sex life is more exciting than ever. But they are worried about their friend, Bernard. He is a writer, but barely publishes. He works in a factory, has no exclusive music collection and does not want children. What starts as an apparently pleasant evening soon degenerates into a desperate search by the couple for the confirmation of their existence. But in that search, they are mercilessly confronted with the emptiness of their material and bourgeois life.
HOUSEWARMING is a timeless satire about a couple having a conversation that is actually not a conversation. We see the dissection of two deeply unhappy people who are burdened by the suffocating expectations that society imposes on them. A couple that builds an identity based on what they possess, what they experience, what they wear... But what is such an identity worth if you have no one to show all that to?
For HOUSEWARMING, Kes Bakker, Anna De Graeve and Toon Acke are inspired by authors such as Vaclav Havel, Thomas Bernhard and Milan Kundera. Triggered by the contemporaneity of the themes and ideas in the critical and humorous work of these authors, they wrote a new, self-written text.

ExhibitionTutankhamun – the Immersive ExhibitionFrom 23 May onwards, visitors are invited on an extraordinary journey back through the ages at TERMINAL 1 of Brussels Expo. Imagine walking through the tomb of Tutankhamun. Witnessing his treasures up close. Attending his mummification. Exploring the Valley of the Kings as if you were truly there. In Tutankhamun – The Immersive Exhibition , visitors step into a captivating world of monumental projections, virtual reality and authentic artefacts — entirely dedicated to the life, tomb and legacy of the young pharaoh Tutankhamun.
This international production has already attracted more than 2.5 million visitors in major cities including Madrid, Hamburg, Cairo and London, and has been honoured with three Telly Awards. Since its world premiere in Madrid, the exhibition has grown into a global phenomenon. At the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the show was an exceptional success — running for six fully sold-out months. Now, the exhibition makes its stop in Brussels, where TERMINAL 1 continues to establish itself as a hotspot for large-scale, high-tech, and innovative international cultural experiences.
A Journey Through Millennia
Spread across more than 2,500 m², the exhibition fully immerses visitors in ancient Egypt. At the heart of the show is a colossal video-mapping hall featuring 360° projections up to eight metres high. Across six chapters, the story of Egyptian civilisation unfolds — from the mythical origins of the world to the legendary discovery of the tomb in 1922.
Among the stories told is that of archaeologist Howard Carter, who discovered the legendary tomb of the young pharaoh. His find comes to life through historical imagery and an audio recording. That voice — over a hundred years old — lends the experience a rare and remarkable authenticity.
Technology That Transports You to Ancient Egypt
Alongside the large-scale projections, the exhibition features several interactive installations. Take a seat and embark — as Tutankhamun himself — on a 360° virtual reality journey through the mystical Egyptian afterlife. Roam freely through a digital metaverse of the Valley of the Kings, visit Howard Carter’s excavation camp, and step into the treasure-filled tomb as though you are standing there in 1922.
Real Artefacts: Over 4,000 Years Old
Alongside the digital spectacle, the exhibition presents a selection of original objects and high-quality replicas displayed across two treasure rooms. Among the pieces is a funerary figurine (ushabti) from the Twentieth Dynasty, once part of Howard Carter’s private collection. Also on display are artefacts from the reigns of Ramesses II and Ramesses III — some more than 4,000 years old. And of course, visitors can admire a replica of Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus and iconic golden mask.
The exhibition also features a mirror installation with a Walking Anubis, and atmospheric set designs recreating Howard Carter’s camp. At the end of the trail, visitors can capture a souvenir photo at a photo booth that transforms them into an inhabitant of ancient Egypt.
Tutankhamun Up Close
By combining archaeological research with digital storytelling, the exhibition creates an experience that is at once educational and spectacular. Special attention is paid to the human being behind the myth and to the scientific quest to unravel his story. Through fascinating facts, photographs by Harry Burton and maps from the Griffith Institute, visitors discover the phenomenon of « Tut-mania », mysterious theories about Nefertiti, and the unsolved riddles of the Valley of the Kings.
A specially composed soundtrack, created by renowned composer René Merkelbach and recorded with a full orchestra and choir, enhances the atmosphere throughout.
Interactive ‘Did you know?’ elements explain concepts such as mummification, hieroglyphics, the Egyptian pantheon and daily life along the Nile in a playful and accessible way — ideal for families, schools and young visitors.

TheatrePassportA young man left for dead has lost his memory. The only tangible element of his past is his passport. He is Eritrean, he crossed the sea, he is in Calais. He then begins a long quest strewn with obstacles to obtain a residence permit.
From the singular story of this man without memory, the author makes us vibrate in unison with these people forced to reinvent an identity to survive.
Seven actors take on the characters to catch us from the first minute and to deliver a formidable humanist tale which, in passing, sets the clocks to the time of certain convictions. The Michalik magic operates again.
Through all these intertwined destinies, between dangers, solidarity, and hope, the play explores exile and the quest for a free and serene life. The narration is breathless, carried by a choral staging and deeply touching characters, the show gives flesh to the invisible paths of migrants.
Alexis Michalik has been triumphing in the theater for over a decade. Le Cercle of illusionists, Le Porteur of stories, Edmond, Intra-Muros, A love story… his talent as a storyteller is undeniable.
Neither militant nor documentary, the show is the embodiment of what exile means through a unifying story.

TheatreEvery Brilliant ThingIt is the story, moving and funny, of a little boy whose mother does something very silly.
He is 7 years old, the little guy, he is not very big. What could he do to help heal mom? At the hospital where he visits her comes an amazing idea: a list! Draw up the list of all the great things that will come to his mind: ice creams, the color yellow, water fights, laughing so hard that milk comes out of the nose… He says to himself: if I put it on mom’s pillow, if she reads it, the miracle will necessarily happen, she will regain a taste for life.
Through the evolution of this inventory, which he will never stop expanding, with your help if you wish, the narrator tells the unpredictable paths his life has taken. “After all, as Toots Thielemans said, we only know how to do nothing but improvise”.
In a very British alloy of apparent simplicity and great subtlety of writing, the play mobilizes us, without mawkishness and with pretty notes well acidulated on the unimaginable luck of being alive.
A call to be enthusiastic, tonic, and unclassifiable! We loved it!

It’s been a good while since they had seen each other, those five. Life, work… Strange place, you might say, but, it must be said that one of the daughters is a thanatopractor... so she decides that it is she who will embalm the departed. And that, that already causes stories… As the hours go by, secrets will surface, skeletons will come out of the closets... and the lie will burst into broad daylight.
It will be a question of coffin size, bank accounts, and other pettiness. Of childhood memories too... And of love obviously, especially of love. Of love unsaid, envied, whispered, missed. Love between people of the same family is never an easy thing.
With his very beautiful writing, Michel Marc Bouchard offers once again to the artists a magnificent score with accents of black humor, a fierce and intelligent score.
When tongues loosen, truths come out of the woods, and we learn that, at night, when “he” woke up, terrible things happened in this family…
A family portrait without concession, without frills either, cash and poignant, which holds up a mirror to us, funny, tender, and cruel.
Family life is always intense, especially during a death, when the broken parts meet again and the puzzle is recomposed to face the buried truths.

Joséphine Serre proposes a fable rooted in our myths and collective memories.
It is the story of a sister who learns of the death of her brother and who wants to understand. It is the story of one of the first dead in Europe of the water war. It is the story of an anger – that of the author, that of her character – which draws its strength from the love of life and the capacity to believe that we can collectively do better.
This rich and complex narrative, where times and characters overlap, is told as simply as possible: the four actors direct the stage management from the stage, generate before our eyes an epic and wonderful tale.
We are invited to enter the forest with them. An initiatory crossing that sends us back to our personal ethics: do we support a world dominated by extractivism or do we courageously seize our existences to invent a future where the living has its place?

TheatreLa Fête • Anne-Cécile Vandalem Joëlle SambiWith the new cycle of creations titled Haunted worlds, Anne-Cécile Vandalem is launching into a highly anticipated new creative series.
The starting point refers to an event that occurred in 2018: the death of the student Sanda Dia during a hazing activity organized by a circle of ‘bright young things’ in Flanders. The eighteen defendants received light sentences of community service. Drawing on this tragedy, Anne-Cécile Vandalem and writer Joëlle Sambi imagined a follow-up: a meeting, two years after the trial, of the victim’s family and the families of two of those convicted. The meeting, held in a villa on the North Sea coast, is orchestrated by a documentary film-maker who hopes to capture a gesture of reconciliation.
But what was meant to be a space for healing turns into a tense, closed-door encounter where fingers are pointed. La Fête sets in motion a mechanism of formidable intelligence to expose the violence of privilege and confront us with our own blind spots. A brilliant exercise in truth-seeking.

May 2022. The actor Thibault Wathelet contacts his friend Alexandre Drouet to help him make video capsules on alcohol addiction.
They then interview 15 people, some in the midst of a struggle against alcoholism, others abstinent for a longer or shorter time.
Thibault asks the questions, Alexandre films. Everything is shot in a house in Ottignies: Patchwork, a service that accompanies and helps dependent people.
A year later, following this overwhelming experience and still crossed and inhabited by these stories, Alexandre proposes to Thibault to make a show out of it that he will write and in which Thibault will play.
But how to approach a subject as sensitive as our relationship with alcohol? Object theater then imposes itself. For its indispensable distance. For its universality, also. And, because it allows the playful delicacy of the shift.

The character depicts the futility of the masters she serves, notably the Lanlaires.\n\nCélestine becomes the privileged witness of the hidden vices of the upper class.\nMirbeau denounces the flaws of the bosses here. Het Red Star Line Museum is a place of stories, departure, and hope. In the museum collection there are historical letters in which people share their experiences, desires, and worries with those who stay behind.
In this workshop, letters as a form of connection are central. What do you write to someone who is far away? What do you tell, what do you leave out? How do you reassure a worried mother? What words remain unwritten?
Inspired by historical letters from the collection, we get to work with expressive writing, art journaling, and other creative working methods. We give words and images to what was never sent, never said, or still requires attention.
Yamille Melendez is a resilience and burnout coach and creative therapist in training. From her background in the corporate world and her passion for creativity, she guides people to reflect in an accessible way on what is alive within them. In her workshops she combines creative working methods such as writing, drawing, and image with reflection and connection.

Charles Gounod was one of the most important and most successful French composers of the mid-nineteenth century. Drawing on a libretto that closely follows William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Gounod composed a highly evocative score that aptly captures all the nuances of this immortal love story.
In collaboration with set designer Cécile Trémolières, director Julia Burbach creates a poetic landscape in which emotions can unfold freely, but where rivalry and violence also steadily seep in. Conductor Valentina Peleggi will make her La Monnaie debut with this work full of glorious melodies.

Whenever something ‘goes wrong’, the police are called in. Police training in Belgium only takes one year, but once they start work, the police encounter extremely complex situations. How does a police officer actually decide what is ‘suspicious’ and what isn’t? As a society, how do you make sure the most vulnerable people are not constantly targeted and arrested? And can the police really be there for everyone?
De blauw, a creation by Serdi Faki Alici, Armin Mola, Joram Kunde Boumkwo and Lara Staal, will be shown outdoors in neighbourhoods all over Flanders. A converted police van forms the scenery, which can be opened up in places such as playgrounds, parks, homes for young people and so-called ‘trouble spots’.
De blauw analyses how the police operate today and creates a many-voiced, many-layered portrait of a society in crisis, where we want as few rules as possible, but the safety debate is more strident than ever. ‘More officers on the beat!’ is what we hear from all sides, but is that really what we want? Zooming in on a moment of speechlessness - a moment when language slips into crisis - DUST proposes an imaginary world inhabited by two characters: “Hmm” and “Huh”, who are constantly shapeshifting. Rubbing against language, and being rubbed away by it, they drift off into a space of intimacy and confusion, daring the edges of the self.
Layering choreography and text, DUST explores transformation and multiplicity of self, with loss and desire as its driving forces. Here the performance departs from the question: What does it mean to move, or to be moved, outside of oneself?

Urtė Groblytė and Judith Dhondt are a performer-maker duo based in Brussels who met at P.A.R.T.S. during their master’s studies (STUDIOS), resulting in two collaborative master projects: A LOVELY CONSTRUCTION SITE and DUST. Their artistic practice results into performances and publications, starting from a reading practice with a strong interest in erotics, body horror, the abject, ecology, feminist/queer sci-fi... – works in which the bodily, physical experience is always intensely palpable in the language. In the studio, they begin from a love for fiction: creating “fantastic” worlds in which beings can
transform, move in and out of each other, and where text can be a spirit, a ghostly lover. Methodically, they are interested in pushing things together that don’t seem to belong at first, a collage of the eclectic.
Together they took part in the Shake your Skills program (with BUDA and detheatermaker) and worked on a publication in collaboration with Arno Huygens during their residency in Kintai Arts (LT). DUST had its official premiere at the Almost Summer Festival, BUDA, in June 2026.

TheatreDignityIn July 2023, the European Union concluded a much-discussed migration deal with Tunisia. The agreement was presented as a win-win for both parties. But is that really true? Critics of the agreement view it as a continuation of colonial deals from the past. They argue that Europe is causing the suffering and death of thousands of refugees. Criticism of the agreement is virtually impossible in Tunisia; critical voices are silenced. Proponents call the deal a courageous response to what they see as the greatest societal challenge in Europe. Migration is portrayed by them as an existential threat that will lead to the “erasure of European civilization,” as Donald Trump put it. What is the truth? Or is dignity a better aspiration? In Dignity, director Chokri Ben Chikha establishes a Tunisian dignity commission in exile. The performance forms the third part of his Truth Commission Trilogy, following PART I – the Belgian Senate (2018) and PART II – the Dutch Senate (2024). It arose from an artistic research project that Ben Chikha / Action Zoo Humain conducted together with L'Art Rue into the consequences of the migration deal on Tunisian society. In it, artists, scientists, and citizens reclaim their truth about migration and human rights. Dignity is inspired by the South African Truth Commission, which, under the chairmanship of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, strove to listen to all involved parties in the aftermath of apartheid in order to live together better in one society. Here, too, the stage becomes a place where witnesses and commission members share their stories, doubts, and truths through words, images, and song. Led by Mpho Tutu van Furth, daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the commission poses the question: Whose dignity is at stake when making migration deals? And who bears the brunt of the humiliation? • Chokri Ben Chikha (1969) is a director, performer, artistic researcher, and author. He has directed numerous productions for arts institutions and organizations, domestically and internationally. Several of his artistic projects have received awards for their social relevance and artistic innovation. Currently, he is particularly focused on productions with his company • Action Zoo Humain. This company explores the extent to which theatre can directly intervene in reality without losing sight of its poetic potential and self-criticism. To this end, it uses the historical concept of the ‘human zoo’ as a research tool to question ethnic, religious, political, and economic conflict zones. Ben Chikha also coaches numerous young and emerging theatre makers and/or performers, and is a lecturer at both KASK/School of Arts/HoGent and the University of Antwerp. They wanted to tell you something about Denis Diderots Jacques, le fataliste et son maître, but just like the protagonist of that novel never gets his love story told because he constantly gets lost in side stories and subplots, so the man and the woman did not succeed in unraveling Diderot's text for you. Their own relationship, of whatever nature, took the upper hand. They could not speak out – or did not want to speak out – what was going on between them, for fear of breaking what was there by giving it language. That is why they kept talking, mainly to not talk about it. And precisely because of that, they threatened to lose each other. De Lotjes Aalst are survivors of people who took their own lives. Because suicide is still the biggest cause of death among young people and a persistent taboo remains around it, they ask for more attention for the mental well-being of young people and for everyone who is fighting a silent battle.
With previous actions, such as the inauguration of Het Stille Strijdbeeld and the light walk, De Lotjes already brought this message out. Their goal remains the same: to show that talking helps, that no one is alone, and that there is always hope.
That is why they bring De Lotjes Kolibrie to De Werf Cultuurhuis. The performance carries a powerful message: you are not alone in your struggle; seek help and talk about it. The intention is to reach young people, parents, teachers, care providers, and everyone who has to deal with mental vulnerability.

Danny Ronaldo went to apprentice with the Sicilian master pizza chef Paolino Bucca and a 19th-century kitchen cart on caster wheels was considerably filled with porcelain dinnerware and the necessary edible and juggleable nutrients. Once the fragile kitchen cabinets open, an accordion begins to lead a life of its own, the spoons play a tarantella on the wine bottles and the ‘fragile’ spectacle can begin.
This legendary performance received five-star reviews and standing ovations from Reykjavik to Lisbon, from Sydney to Hong Kong and can now be seen in Schoten/Brasschaat.

live gaming and theatre converge. Artist Samuel Baidoo created an
autobiographical video game for this piece: a series of virtual spaces that
offer an escape from the outside world, while also providing room to reflect on
violence in reality. How can a video game help us relate to our daily reality?
Baidoo
does this in an unparalleled way. Through their avatar 'S', they offer access
to a series of 'sanctuaries': safe havens where players can slow down and get
lost. Every evening, Baidoo invites a different guest player to explore the
game live on stage. Guided by a host, a conversation unfolds about the various
layers the game touches upon within the guest. While Baidoo prepares tea and
intervenes from time to time, a performance of profound depth emerges.

FestivalDetours FestivalLe Detours Festival is the unmissable event for urban dances, at the crossroads of hip-hop and contemporary creation.
Each summer, it makes Brussels vibrate by transforming it into a living, accessible, and inclusive stage. Faithful to its ambition — to bring the theater to the street and the street to the theater — the festival creates bridges between public space and cultural institutions.
Throughout the summer, the programming sets the pace for the city through a great diversity of formats. Les Detours Cyphers, organized every Wednesday from July 15 to September 9, bring together battles and open stages in a festive and participatory atmosphere. La Grande Finale, on October 24, brings together the winners of the season on the stage of Théâtre National Wallonie-Brussels.
The Work In Progress component supports emerging international artists and choreographers, with public performances on September 16 and 17 at Centre Culturel Bruegel. Les Soirées Créations highlight accomplished works, carried by artists from the contemporary urban scene.
With the Detours Quartiers, the festival goes to meet the inhabitants in different Brussels neighborhoods, promoting access to culture and encouraging the participation of everyone (on August 22 in Saint-Gilles, on September 12 in Molenbeek, on September 20 in Bizet).
A key moment of the festival, the Urban Dance Caravan crosses the city center in a great artistic parade, inviting the public to follow the movement to Théâtre National for the Cyphers finale.

Du September 24 to October 4
Last May, Brussels Design Week unveiled its new identity, designed by Rond Carré Studio. The new name and visual identity generated a lot of positive feedback, both on the concept and the design. Today, the festival is publishing the program of its 20th edition. From September 24 to October 4, 2026, Brussels Design Week will take over galleries, workshops, cultural institutions, shops, hotels and heritage sites throughout the Brussels Region.
Central Un Hub
For this anniversary edition, Brussels Design Week is acquiring a central location: the Hub, hosted at AME (WOMADE's new home), rue de la Grosse Tour 3 in Brussels. AME is a hybrid space conceived as a contemporary ecosystem, where entrepreneurship meets creativity and design, and where community remains at the center. It features a new-generation coworking space, a vibrant café, a curated space dedicated to limited-edition pieces and exclusive collaborations, a modular event stage, as well as a creative studio for podcasts, workshops and vernissages. This 900 m² space will host an exhibition by designer Alain Gilles, the festival press conference on September 24, as well as three conferences: a talk by Jade Vijt on commercial design education (September 25) and two editions of the "Celles qui font le design" (Women Shaping Design) cycle, dedicated to female and non-binary voices in the creative professions (September 29 and September 30).
Commerce Design Awards, 14th edition: the winners
Les Commerce Design Awards have been rewarding Brussels commercial spaces since 2012 that demonstrate a successful collaboration between merchants and designers. The 2026 jury, chaired by interior architect Nathalie Deboel, has selected seven winners:
The Standard (Bernard Dubois), Atomium Shop (KEPER architecten), COSMOS (Maxime De Campenaere), AKKO CAFÉ (Rebecca Rébillée), Journal (Studio Zazie Maquet), Flipper's (Studio Elmēs) and Bleu (Lolie Coufo).
The awards ceremony will be held on September 29 at 7 PM at Trademart Brussels. Public voting will open at the beginning of August.
Exhibitions
The exhibition "The Secular Chapel", presented by the Rempart44 gallery and curated by Nicole Brock at the The Dominican hotel, will officially open the festival on the evening of September 24. A privileged partner of the festival for years, The Dominican, Belgium's first design hotel, gives Brussels Design Week the opportunity every year to unfold within this setting in the heart of the city. The Dominican bears the traces of a place of faith, contemplation and collective rituals. The Secular Chapel explores how this quest is taking on new forms today: the exhibition brings together designers who develop objects, materials and narratives as contemporary vectors of attention, desire and imagination. Where chapels were once filled with icons and relics, the exhibition offers a collection of new artifacts, not as objects of devotion, but as invitations to reflection. Each work deploys its own system of values, a personal mythology or a possible future. The Secular Chapel is not a place of faith, but of attention.
In Ixelles, the gallery located at 57 rue Van Eyck will host "Les Jardiniers du Vide", an exhibition by Zélie Boulestreau and her project Papier Boulettes, from September 24 to October 4 (vernissage on September 23). Papier Boulettes is a monumental recycled paper fresco project, born in 2021 in Brussels from the collaboration between Maud Bocquet and Zélie Boulestreau. The frescoes are most often created in situ using paper and cardboard gathered on site. Inspired by ecological insulation techniques, recycled paper pulp is applied to the walls. This simple process mixing art and craftsmanship gives birth to complex motifs, animal, plant and mineral. A multidisciplinary artist and artistic director of Papier Boulettes, Zélie Boulestreau brings to the project her papermaking expertise, her interest in living things and the preservation of ecosystems, nurtured by her knowledge of the plants she cultivates in her Pyrenean garden.
Among the other confirmed exhibitions: Val Saint-Lambert & Design at Design Museum Brussels, three projects at Liszt Institute Brussels, the Brazilian editions of BS Galleria opening its doors in Brussels (Châtelain district), a design, arts and fashion pop-up at Mayfair BXL (Boulevard de Waterloo), IMAGINAIR rue de Prévôt, and the Kartell flagship at Porte de Namur.
Shifting Ground, 2nd edition: A Garden Party
On the occasion of the festival's 20th anniversary, and following the success of its first edition, Shifting Ground returns to USquare (Avenue de la Couronne) with "A Garden Party": an immersive exhibition centered around the idea of the party as a space for encounter, creation and collective reflection. The exhibition will bring together works by Belgian and European designers. Beyond its festive dimension, the project is rooted in a paradox: organizing a celebration at a time when social, economic and creative expression is increasingly fragile. The garden party, historically associated with certain forms of privilege, is reinterpreted here as both a critical and poetic device, a way of questioning how we gather and how we choose to celebrate. On Saturday, September 26, Shifting Ground will also host Brussels Design September's big birthday party, with cakes and surprises. From September 17 to 27.
Curated, 3rd edition
Curated returns to Mix Brussels for its 3rd edition, curated by Lionel Jadot. This functional art exhibition, open to all, brings together the creations of 33 designers, artists, collectors and architects in the former historical headquarters of Royale Belge, transformed for the occasion into a vibrant place of creativity. Inside the Ateliers: Brussels designers open their doors for a weekend
On the weekend of September 25 to 27, some twenty workshops, studios and manufacturing spaces will open their doors to the public: OpenStructures, Recyclart Fabrik, Atelier Tou, Studio with a view, KA PAI studio, studiokhachatryan, alter asbl, Cru atelier, AUXAU Architecture, among others. A trail through the neighborhoods of Brussels, from Anderlecht to Uccle via Molenbeek, Forest and Ixelles.
20 years of the "Designer of the Year" award: retrospective at MAD
Starting October 1, MAD Brussels will present a retrospective exhibition celebrating the winners of the Designer of the Year award Knack Weekend / Le Vif Weekend. Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover the selection of 14 graduating students from Brussels design and fashion schools for "MAD Graduation Show 2026".
Schools and institutions
Several training and manufacturing institutions are participating in this edition: La Cambre presents "Changement de voie / Spoorverandering" at TRACK Brussels (North Station), LUCA School of Arts will exhibit its design students, and the three Brussels cityfabs (Laeken, Evere, Anderlecht) will open their doors, alongside Green Fabric (textile fablab, Forest), Micro Factory (Circular Design, Anderlecht), Materiatek and Circularium.

Voormiddag: In the port of Antwerp, we take the boat for a 3-hour cruise along the Oosterweel works. Upon arrival, coffee/tea with a croissant is offered. Drinks are available and there are toilets.
A guide provides explanation during the cruise. From the water, we get a clear view of this megaproject and learn everything about the complex infrastructure works that shape the future of Antwerp.
Afternoon: After lunch, we leave for the Deurne airport. We first visit the Stampe & Vertongen museum under the guidance of a local guide.
The museum pays tribute to the aviation pioneers Jean Stampe and Maurice Vertongen who founded their flight school and aircraft factory in Antwerp in 1923.

In 2007, writer Gaea Schoeters and photographer Trui Hanoulle traveled by motorcycle through nine Muslim countries for seven months. In doing so, they followed the trail of the legendary travelers Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Ella Maillart, who crossed the same region almost seventy years earlier.
During this lecture, Gaea and Trui take you on a fascinating journey along maps, navigation, and changing borders. They tell how technology has changed travel, from paper maps and compasses to GPS, smartphones, and constant connectivity. Based on their recent travels through Central Asia and Pakistan, they also reflect on the social, geopolitical, and climatic changes of today. In addition, Trui presents her book Baanbreeksters, about women, mobility, and emancipation. An inspiring story about travel, freedom, and the power of movement.
