Ottla Ottla, initially an occasional project from 2019 by Bert Dockx (see also Dans Dans, Flying Horseman), quickly grew into a full-fledged band, with a debut album and numerous performances. Five years later, 'Vogel' was released: once again a lively exploration of jazz, improvisation, electro, noise, prog, afro, blues, groove, punk, and krautrock. This autumn, the jazz-rock quartet ventures into the compositions of Thelonious Monk (whose 'Epistrophy' they already covered on their debut 'Ottla', and whose music also keeps returning in Dockx's other projects). Monk is one of the most legendary odd birds in music history, a completely unique jazz pianist, and a brilliant, endlessly inventive composer. She studied there at the jazz program of The New School, where she was taught by mentors such as Andrew Cyrille, Ben Street, Kris Davis, and Jay Clayton. She is not a jazz chanteuse, although she calls Nina Simone one of her greatest role models. Nor can you call her a folk singer. Last year, her debut 'E' was released, undoubtedly one of the albums of 2025. Her work pays special attention to sobriety, her voice, and her relationship with the piano, an instrument that has accompanied Glass since her childhood. True to her name, her music and songs sparkle and shine, reflecting contemporary life and making the peculiarities of the world shimmer dizzily.
