Tutu Puoane brings a moving ode to Roberta Flack, in which she breathes new life into timeless songs with her warm voice and soulful interpretation.
In recent years, Tutu Puoane has strung the awards together, both in Belgium and in South Africa, her home country. She uses her great talent for beautiful projects like ‘The Joni Mitchell Project’ or ‘Wrapped In Rhythm’ with the Nederlandse Metropole Orkest. Ook Bart Peeters, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and KVS liked to work with her. In her latest production, she brings songs by the recently deceased soul diva Roberta Flack. In the 70s, she released well-known songs like ‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’ and ‘Where Is The Love’. Tutu is the perfect interpreter to bring this soft, emotional repertoire to life.
Flack’s career peaked in the 70s, but she continued to perform until she became ill in 2022 and eventually passed away in February 2025.
Voor Tutu Puoane Roberta Flack was a childhood heroine and a shining example of how a black artist could build a successful career in an honest, sensitive, and musical way. Perhaps it is no coincidence that Tutu’s own vocal sound and musical approach are regularly compared to those of Flack.
