Noem Trio Da Kali certainly a supergroup. Zangeres Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is the daughter of Kassé Mady Diabaté, one of the greatest voices that Africa ever produced. Madou Kouyaté is the son of Bassekou Kouyaté, grandmaster on the ngoni (West African lute). En Lassana Diabaté, who sets the artistic lines, is the authority on the balafon (the iconic xylophone-with-gourds from the griot tradition).
They first gained international fame with their sublime album Ladilikan, on which they collaborated with the legendary Kronos Quartet from San Francisco. The songs on their new album Bagola show their enchanting and unique sound.
We were already able to host the trio from Mali in Lokeren in January 2018. Whoever was there certainly still remembers their beautiful interplay, powerful voices, and infectious stage energy.
