When actor and author Rudy Morren – known for years as the paramedic “Cisse” from Spoed – receives a Parkinson’s diagnosis, his life seems to stand still. Instead of withdrawing, he steps into his local pub and openly asks for help. Thus “Team Rudy” quickly arises: a colorful and loving group of friends, colleagues, and neighbors who surround him in the most difficult moments, but also in unique connection celebrations full of humor and emotion.
The hard core includes actor Michaël Pas and young theater maker Aline Cornelissen, who, together with Rudy, continue to explore how art, friendship, and care can reinforce each other. Meanwhile, the group supports Rudy through the journey of a spectacular Deep Brain Stimulation surgery that can alleviate his most severe symptoms, and he works on a theater performance that first seemed like a goodbye, but might just become a new beginning.
Team Rudy is not a classic documentary, but an intimate cinéma vérité film about friendship, solidarity, and the power of carrying together in a new kind of collective home care. For director and producer Nic Balthazar, this story is extra close to home because his father also has Parkinson's.
