Film - Pleegzorg Vlaanderen - Mom, can I come home?

'Mama, mag ik naar huis toe?' (Mom, can I go home?) tells the poignant story of mothers whose children have been placed in foster care. The film highlights their experience and collaboration with foster parents. What do you go through as a mother when you prove unable to raise your own child? What stigmas and (self-)reproaches do you have to deal with? How do you pull yourself together and ensure you find peace in what has happened to you? Society's judgment of these parents is often harsh. They are burdened by feelings of guilt, shame, and fear, but is that justified? In this documentary, you follow six mothers. All six have one or more children who no longer live at home and whose upbringing is in the hands of foster parents. What is the effect on their current life and the choices they make? 'Mama, mag ik naar huis toe?' takes you beyond the judgment. Prior to the film, we are organizing a short panel discussion in collaboration with Pleegzorg Vlaanderen.
