Comfort lies precisely in those small gestures: staying, writing a card, truly listening or leaving room for silence... Using recognizable themes, she takes you along: what do you say or rather not say, how do you remain close and how do you take care of yourself while wanting to be there for the other? She shares warm stories, beautiful examples and reflections. So be sure to drop by between 15h and 16h to meet this fantastic woman and dive into her newest book. These testimonies show meaning-making not as a fixed compass, but as something that transforms – under the influence of loss and love, doubt and insight, coincidence and choice. This book does not invite following, but listening ─ to others, and perhaps also to what in yourself did not yet have words. For in a time that constantly distracts us, the question of meaning is perhaps the most radical and relevant one we can continue to ask. With testimonies from, among others, Khalid Benhaddou, Gerard Bodifée, Kedist Deltour, Marijn Devalck, monk Giel, Carry Goossens, Tulli Padwa, Rik Torfs, Pim van Lommel, Koen Vanmechelen and many others. For more than four decades he has been refining the art and magic of dub from his studio Ariwa Sounds, which he founded in 1979. He is considered one of the leading producers of the second generation and played a key role in the transition from dub to the digital age. In that self-built studio in the 80s and 90s he produced tracks for the cream of roots reggae and dub. His custom-built mixing desk was loved by sound system giants like Moa Ambessa, Jah Shaka and Aba Shanti. Besides collaborations with roots reggae artists like Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Horace Andy, in the 90s he also worked on remixes for pop and electronic acts like Massive Attack, The Orb, Sade and Jamiroquai. Het Ariwa label, on which Mad Professor releases reggae, dub and lovers rock of himself and other artists, has more than 300 official releases. A compilation released earlier this year at Melodies International is an excellent introduction to the rich world of Ariwa. The label also supports social and cultural projects, such as the Reggae Roundtable and the Back to Africa Festival in Gambia. De Live Electronic Dub Show with which Mad Professor still tours, was the first of its kind. Armed with vintage analog mixing consoles, effect units and samplers, he brings an energetic set in which roots reggae and dub classics merge with influences from other electronic genres. The result is a "sonic journey" that transcends generations and genres. Or, as he says himself: "Dub isn't just about echo — it's about imagination, communication, and vibration." Voor Dub Revolution brings along Mad Professor Sista Aisha, his regular vocalist. Together they released her debut album 'High Priestess' (1988) and successor 'Daughters of Zion' (1993), among others. In addition, Aisha also worked with Norman Grant (The Twinkle Brothers), Kofi, Fabian and Sandra Cross. Her more recent tracks like 'Wait A Minute' and 'Do You Know' are also true soundsystem anthems. CRUCIAL ALPHONSO & REFLEXIAN Crucial Alphonso is a reggae and dub producer from Antwerp with more than 20 years of experience under his belt. His signature style balances between deep roots and energetic steppers. He founded his own Roots Resolute Records and released tracks with, among others, Bunnington Judah, Donovan Kingjay, Lyrical Benjie, Kenny Knots and Sammy Gold. MC Reflexian can be spotted on very diverse stages and performs as a member of the Rupelsoldaten, Jah Heavy Load Soundsystem or with his Mobile 12v FLPSTR sound. Since then Forward Fever has released a whole bunch of other tracks on labels like AbabaJahnoy, Indica Dubs, Woodland Records, Vibes Generator, Reservoir Dub and their own Forward Fever Recordings.Fri 6 Nov · 19:30–23:30Cactus Muziekcentrum · Brugesfrom €17 The Mirror - Gravity and Other MythsMusicThe Mirror - Gravity and Other MythsA high-level acrobatic spectacle by Gravity and Other Myths that playfully explores what entertainment, authenticity, and self-image mean in a world full of permanent self-presentation, using LED screens, cameras, and selfie sticks. With six studio albums and countless performances to their name, the band has consistently pushed the boundaries of what a rock band can be. From the thundering battle cries of ‘Witch Doctor’ to the razor-sharp commentary of ‘KITTY KITTY’ — De Staat has long explored themes such as demagogy and mass manipulation. De Staat has played at major festivals — and in some cases as a headliner — including SXSW, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Sziget, Boomtown, Rock for People, Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter and Deichbrand, and has toured with bands like The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro. Their music ranges from industrial grooves and heavy riffs to experimental electronics and pop sensibility. After a two-year silence, De Staat returns with a long-awaited seventh, self-titled album, an art installation, and a live show, marking nearly 25 years of groundbreaking work in the art rock landscape. Their latest creation plays more strongly than ever into today’s dystopian fears, in which power, populism, and control collide and the line between reality and fiction gradually blurs. De Staat will go on tour through Europe and the Verenigd Koninkrijk in the autumn of 2026 and will come to Cactus Club on November 7. Hiqpy In their homeland the Netherlands, no one has any doubts anymore: the Amsterdam indie pop band Hiqpy is the next big thing. Without having released even a single note of music, they already made it to the stages of festivals like Pinkpop, Best Kept Secret and Into The Great Wide Open. Last year they were allowed to step in at the last minute at Werchter, a performance for which Humo subsequently blew the trumpet of praise: “the primal power of Anna Calvi, the preference for the cinematographic character of Weyes Blood and Sonic Youth-worthy outbursts.” Meanwhile, Hiqpy has a record deal with Sony Music in their pocket and they are ready for the big breakthrough. De Tunesisch-Dutch songwriter Abir Hamam knows how to pen songs that are about something and at the same time seem made to rock out on the big festival stages. For the first singles ‘Something’, ‘Girl in Red’ and ‘Red Flag Magician’, Hiqpy collaborated with Danton Supple, Grammy-winning producer for Coldplay, U2 and Elbow, among others. With false modesty you do not get far with our northern neighbors, so we can just say it as it is: Hiqpy is going for the big stages and the big anthems. And if they are presented as crispy and exciting as by these Amsterdammers, then we are completely ready for it.Sat 7 Nov · 19:30–23:30Cactus Muziekcentrum · Brugesfrom €23 Stage for the Passion - Easy listening songs by 'Springtime' - free concertMusicStage for the Passion - Easy listening songs by 'Springtime' - free concertSpringtime is an atmospheric band from Bruges that brings a warm mix of timeless classics, intimate ballads, and recognizable feel-good tunes.
