With The Future was Today , Sonico celebrates the hundredth anniversary of Eduardo Rovira, one of the most enigmatic and innovative voices within the tango. In a staged concert, inspired by the atmosphere of a late-night show from the seventies, the ensemble invites the audience to (re-)discover this silent genius: an artist who devoted himself entirely to his art, not out of a desire for fame or success, but out of pure love for music and its boundless possibilities. Rovira's hundredth birthday coincided with Sonico's own tenth anniversary. In April 2025, the ensemble undertook a striking tour through Argentina, which resulted in the recording of its fifth album Rovira 100 , a revival of Rovira's most emblematic works, including Sonico (1969) and Que lo Paren (1975). Now Rovira 100 comes to life on stage in The Future was Today : a cinematic concert, in which live music is fused with video projections, lighting design, and photo montages created in Buenos Aires. Together, they immerse the audience in the bustling Zeitgeist van Rovira's time.
