MusicBill Stewart Trio ft. Larry Grenadier & Walter Smith IIIThe Bill Stewart trio, with Larry Grenadier and Walter Smith III, counts among the most exciting groups on the current jazz and improvised music scene. In recent years, the group has performed twice for a one-week residency at the famous New York club Village Vanguard and has recorded an album titled Band Menu.
Bill Stewart and Larry Grenadier share a long musical history, notably within the groups of Pat Metheny (from 1999 to 2000, then again in 2008) and John Scofield (1996-1997), as well as in numerous recording sessions. Bill Stewart met Walter Smith III during a recording session for the pianist Danny Grissett and was immediately won over by the saxophonist's singular sound and his very personal approach to music.

MusicFrom darkness, visible light is the bright mindJames Turrell once remarked: “I use light as a material, but my medium is
actually perception.” This programme begins from that idea. Bringing together works for
harp and electronics across centuries and aesthetics, this concert explores music not as a
fixed object, but as an experience that comes into being through listening. Sound unfolds
in relation to memory, attention, space, and time. Resonances linger beyond their source.
Familiar gestures return altered. What we hear is shaped as much by perception as by the
notes themselves.
At the centre of the programme is Pulitzer Prize finalist Leilehua Lanzilotti’s from
darkness, visible light is the bright mind, a work inspired by James Turrell’s immersive
light environments. Like Turrell’s installations, the music invites a heightened awareness
of subtle change, where the smallest shifts in colour, texture, and resonance transform
the listener’s sense of duration and place.
Historical and contemporary voices enter into dialogue throughout the
programme. Fragments of the past are heard alongside newly created works, not as
opposites but as reflections of one another. Acoustic and electronic sounds intertwine,
revealing continuities across time and suggesting that every act of creation is also an act
of transmission.
For Artonov’s theme We Do Not Work Alone, the programme proposes a simple
thought: no artwork exists in isolation. Music emerges through a web of relationships—
between composers and performers, past and present, sound and silence, artwork and
audience. The listener is not merely a witness, but an active participant in the creation of

MusicConcert: BAERTMANPieter Baert, instructor at the Academie van Sint-Agatha-Berchem, built a versatile career within and outside the jazz and world scene, with collaborations with, among others, Stef Kamiel Carlens, Teun Verbruggen and SonBacàn. He played on international stages, including Carnegie Hall (New York), and developed a lyrical, sound-oriented piano style in which improvisation is central. His music is rooted in tradition, but always seeks out experiment. His solo album Tinten was released in 2021. Jan Heirman developed within an urban and electronic context with projects such as M.CHUZI, Okkupeerder and MeyanDR. He works with beats, textures and live electronics, always with room for spontaneity. In Baertman improvisation forms the starting point. Compositions arise from interaction and dialogue. This is handmade music. The generation difference between both musicians is not a contradiction, but a motor. Baertman sounds energetic and urban, but at the same time vulnerable and spiritual — a search for nuance, layering and connection in a time of sharp positions. Tonight he presents that collective and cosmic voyage live, accompanied on stage by Ruqqiyah, Mejiwahn and Wonky Logic.
Expanding that dialogue between what we know and what we don't, ShunGu invited worldwide wanderer NEXCYIA to open the stage.
Both musicians know from experience that in the spaces where trust, risk, and vulnerability intersect, something entirely new can emerge. Something that invites us to stop and smell the stars together.

NEXCYIA
NEXCYIA is the solo project of Adam Dove, a Paris-born, Berlin based American sound artist and sound designer. His work might be described as outsider ambient, blending underground experimental music with sound design, textural soundscapes, and sound mangling techniques. Moving through shifting samples, moods and emotional registers, he explores themes of otherness and belonging. Through dense layering and continuous audio manipulation, he creates ever-evolving pieces that draw listeners into a sonic journey, eschewing the over-visited constraints of a tempo grid.
NEXCYIA has performed and exhibited work at major venues, contemporary art spaces, and festivals across the US, UK and Europe, including the Barbican Centre, ICA, Café OTO and much more. He has established a strong presence in the ambient music scene, with features in Fact Magazine, The Wire, and Crack Magazine, with appearances on Resident Advisor, NTS and BBC Radio. Label releases can be found on Good Morning Tapes, Haunter Records, Hivern Discs, 29Speedway, Paralaxe Editions, Takuroku and more, with a collection of self-releases on Bandcamp and Nina.

Maybe Brussels’ most enigmatic music prophet ShunGu is forever in transformation. Under the name Senga, he is an accomplished producer and beatmaker who has worked with the likes of Dreamcastmoe, Quelle Chris en Fly Anakin, and knows how to elevate dance floors into sacred spaces through tantalizing MPC-driven live sessions of Detroit-infused house.
Under his own name, ShunGu has quietly carved out a unique place in the subterranean music scene, blending jazz-infused sampling with cosmic grooves, bridging the worlds of hip-hop, jazz, psych-rock, and house with the intellectual curiosity and playful creativity of a tireless sound architect. In 2025 ShunGu released his highly anticipated album, Faith in the Unknown, on the legendary Lex Records, with a surefire roster of collaborators including Pink Siifu, Liv.e, and Fatima,to name but a few.
His latest alias dj Echotree and the eponymous label/platform are dedicated to the more introspective, legacy-oriented and interdisciplinary side of his artistic practice. Considering the impressive series of mixtapes, albums, radio shows and live gigs to his name, the only constant for this next chapter might be that you’ll be using your mind, your memory and most of all your heart to experience it to the fullest.

MusicMANOU GALLOIvorian bassist, singer and composer Manou Gallo has built a unique musical language where West African rhythms meet funk, jazz fusion and raw groove.
After arriving in Europe in 1997, she became the bassist of Zap Mama, touring extensively across Europe and the US, before developing her own projects from 2003 onwards. Along the way, she has shared music and stages with figures such as Marcus Miller, Bootsy Collins and Manu Dibango.
A bass player’s bass player, Manou approaches the instrument as rhythm, melody and percussion at once. From the freedom of Jaco to the funk heritage of Bootsy and Marcus Miller, these influences meet her own African roots to create something deeply personal: Afro fusion driven by bass and groove.

MusicThe Spilliaert Trio – works by Mozart, Mel Bonis and César FranckFormed in Brussels, the Spilliaert Trio owes its name and initial inspiration to the Belgian painter Léon Spilliaert (1881–1946). It comprises pianist Gauvain de Morant, violinist Jean-Samuel Bez and cellist Guillaume Lagravière.
The Spilliaert Trio is an affiliate member of Chamber Music for Europe, a laureate of the Royaumont Foundation, a member of the Dimore del Quartetto network in Italy, and part of the Proquartet ensembles in Paris. They are featured in the Art et Vie catalogue of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Their first album, released on Cyprès Records (2021), is dedicated to a complete recording of the trios by the composer Désiré Pâque.
In 2021, they made the very first recording of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Trio 1848. In 2022, they released a second album, on the Cybele label, featuring the complete trios by Jacqueline Fontyn, followed by ‘Augusta’ in 2024, a Belgian-Irish project centred on Augusta Holmès (LP), and finally ‘Alchemy’, their fourth album, a complete recording of the trio music by Alex de Taeye and Lucie Vellère, due to be released on Cypres in 2026.
The Trio has made it its mission to perform and champion the Belgian repertoire, with the support of the Musicabel association, by including a work by a Belgian composer in every concert. In 2023, this commitment was recognised with the FUGA Prize, awarded by the Union of Belgian Composers.
Keen to showcase contemporary music, the three musicians are dedicated to performing the music of our time, creating new works and collaborating with festivals such as Belgian Music Days and Osmose.
The Trio regularly commissions new works, notably from Jan Kuijken, Alithéa Ripoll and Nicolas Bacri. It has also contributed to performances in collaboration with theatre and dance companies, and created the show *Monsieur Pâque* for the Jeunesses Musicales de Wallonie-Bruxelles.
Having won several prizes in international competitions, the Spilliaert Trio notably won First Prize at the Svirél International Competition in Slovenia and the City of Lège-Cap-Ferret Prize at the Open Cap Ferret. MusicBrussels Philharmonic & Ilan VolkovForget the ticking of the clock — here, music doesn’t rush forward, but grips the present moment. Raven Chacon, Tyshawn Sorey, Annea Lockwood and George Lewis ask us to listen differently: what remains when the noise falls away?
Raven Chacon, the first Native American Pulitzer winner, usually tackles history and politics. With Inscription, however, he lets the music speak for itself. Inspired by 1,000-year-old New Mexican petroglyphs, he treats ancient rock art as musical prompts: 'They looked like violin cues or bass clarinet vibratos to me.' Breaking from rigid tradition, Chacon uses graphic scores and microtones, treating every orchestral player as an 'autonomous sound-maker.'
Then, the tempo drops to a near-standstill. Tyshawn Sorey’s Adagio (For Wadada Leo Smith) is a monumental lesson in patience, moving with the majestic, imperceptible crawl of a glacier. Amidst the near-silence, a slowly rotating alto sax melody offers a steady hand to hold.
But silence is an illusion. Unless time stops, the world—nature, the city, our own bodies—is always loud. These are the raw materials of Annea Lockwood. In Saouah!, she blurs the lines between voice, breath, and instrument, inviting us to stop hunting for harmony and start feeling the physical resonance of sound itself.
Finally, George Lewis explores time as 'wear and tear': “Weathering mirrors the stamina needed to endure systemic racism—the chronic stress of a permanent 'fight or flight' mode. I hope my music does noy cause stress, but sparks empathy. After all, this kind of weathering affects us all."

Xime Monzón has established herself as one of the best known blues harmonica players in South America. She has performed widely in clubs and festivals in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Czechia, Slovakia as well as throughout her native Argentina. Xime is accompanied by Anita Fabiano on piano, Federico Verteramo on guitar, Mauro Bonamico on bass and Mattieu Wanderscheid on drums.
BRBC houseband Midnight Mary will open the concert, performing their popular R'n'B repertoire, featuring classics by Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Bo Diddley, Elmore James, Junior Wells, Link Wray, Big Mama Thornton, Otis Redding, Al Green and others.
After the concert there is a late blues jam hosted by Roman until 2am.

TheatreThe LatecomersDecoratelier – a workspace for scenographers and artists – is temporarily housed in an abandoned factory in Molenbeek, together with the solidarity restaurant Cassonade. They find themselves on heavily polluted ground. A layer of concrete prevents oil, chemicals, and heavy metals from seeping into the daily lives of local residents. The municipality of Molenbeek is planning to turn the site into a park: everything that is built in Decoratelier today will disappear beneath a thick layer of healthy soil. Will the history and the invisible stories of this place vanish as well? Together with the caretaker, the cooks of Cassonade, neighbours and visitors, the builders of Decoratelier set to work like true archaeologists. As ‘latecomers’, they create a space to reflect on historical pollution and collective responsibility. They unravel the past and speculate about future ecosystems, life forms, and ways of living. Through constructions and stories, they search for a form to share their concerns and desires with future generations. Can a society be built upon its own mistakes? Haunted by the power of these words, Bruno Freire dances to Krenak's text as if to a musical score, inviting us – through a unique listening experience – to feel it in our flesh. Indigenous philosopher and activist, Ailton Krenak delivers a critique of contemporary urban society. Convinced that it is more urgent to listen to those who take care of the forest rather than those who destroy it, Bruno Freire takes us inside his questioning. How to face the climate catastrophe without falling into anxiety and melancholy? Letting himself be traversed by the sound and meaning of the words, he gives life to Krenak's thoughts, initiating a dance to push back the end of the world. TheatreThe Just AssassinsWe can summarize Les Justes by writing that it is a group of revolutionary socialists who are preparing an attack in February 1905 in Moscow with the idea of assassinating the tyrant. We can also tell the story of a group of young people who choose revolt to give life a chance. It is this version that Jean-Baptiste Delcourt defends in his staging of the work of Albert Camus, revived this season after the success met at the creation of the show. Directing his actors as if they were “struggling for life”, he continues his political and sensitive exploration of great, demanding texts.
The staging puts us face to face with the moral limits of revolutionary action, however just the causes may be. At the moment of throwing the bomb at the Duke’s carriage, Kaliayev spots children in the carriage. What to do? Camus’s text is philosophically suspended on this choice, sending us back to the question of democracy, of the common, of the radicality of the gesture.
This tension between revolt and love, justice and radicality, Jean-Baptiste Delcourt explores with seven young actors, to propose a chamber of echoes and reflections for our ultra-violent current events. In a battered meeting room, the five actor-dancers dissect the mythology of power and lay bare the absurdity, illusions, initiation rituals and destruction that seem to define all these men — emotionally blocked somewhere between gods and teenagers. So imagine an office party at the end of the world, suspended somewhere between a Greek tragedy and a contemporary apocalypse, pop music and an epic symphony, at the intersection of dance and theatre, where beauty meets horror.

Through a direct style, the work denounces the hypocrisy, perversion, and dehumanization of servants by their masters.\n\nA virulent social satire in the deconstruction of the myth of bourgeois respectability. The character depicts the futility of the masters she serves, notably the Lanlaires.\n\nCélestine becomes the privileged witness of the hidden vices of the upper class.\nMirbeau denounces the flaws of the bosses here. It’s been a good while since they had seen each other, those five. Life, work… Strange place, you might say, but, it must be said that one of the daughters is a thanatopractor... so she decides that it is she who will embalm the departed. And that, that already causes stories… As the hours go by, secrets will surface, skeletons will come out of the closets... and the lie will burst into broad daylight.
It will be a question of coffin size, bank accounts, and other pettiness. Of childhood memories too... And of love obviously, especially of love. Of love unsaid, envied, whispered, missed. Love between people of the same family is never an easy thing.
With his very beautiful writing, Michel Marc Bouchard offers once again to the artists a magnificent score with accents of black humor, a fierce and intelligent score.
When tongues loosen, truths come out of the woods, and we learn that, at night, when “he” woke up, terrible things happened in this family…
A family portrait without concession, without frills either, cash and poignant, which holds up a mirror to us, funny, tender, and cruel.
Family life is always intense, especially during a death, when the broken parts meet again and the puzzle is recomposed to face the buried truths.

Through the evolution of this inventory, which he will never stop expanding, with your help if you wish, the narrator tells the unpredictable paths his life has taken. “After all, as Toots Thielemans said, we only know how to do nothing but improvise”.
In a very British alloy of apparent simplicity and great subtlety of writing, the play mobilizes us, without mawkishness and with pretty notes well acidulated on the unimaginable luck of being alive.

Each summer, it makes Brussels vibrate by transforming it into a living, accessible, and inclusive stage. Faithful to its ambition — to bring the theater to the street and the street to the theater — the festival creates bridges between public space and cultural institutions.
Throughout the summer, the programming sets the pace for the city through a great diversity of formats. Les Detours Cyphers, organized every Wednesday from July 15 to September 9, bring together battles and open stages in a festive and participatory atmosphere. La Grande Finale, on October 24, brings together the winners of the season on the stage of Théâtre National Wallonie-Brussels.
The Work In Progress component supports emerging international artists and choreographers, with public performances on September 16 and 17 at Centre Culturel Bruegel. Les Soirées Créations highlight accomplished works, carried by artists from the contemporary urban scene.
With the Detours Quartiers, the festival goes to meet the inhabitants in different Brussels neighborhoods, promoting access to culture and encouraging the participation of everyone (on August 22 in Saint-Gilles, on September 12 in Molenbeek, on September 20 in Bizet).
A key moment of the festival, the Urban Dance Caravan crosses the city center in a great artistic parade, inviting the public to follow the movement to Théâtre National for the Cyphers finale.
