The Night Lights

Wed, 25 Nov 2026 · 19:00
Théâtre des Martyrs, Brussels
A building. Three lit windows, night after night. Behind these windows, the same reality: that of caregivers and those being cared for. From snapshots of life to dreamlike escapes, we meet a teenager and her mother, a woman and her father, as well as a couple of men. Over the seasons, their stories respond to and intertwine in a visual and sensory fresco where the gestures of care unfold in all their humanity. If the title Les Veilleuses evokes the small lamps intended to dispel the fear of the dark, it also relates the reality of many people – mostly women – accompanying a loved one, outside of any professional framework. For two years, the director conducted artistic workshops with these unsung heroes and heroines. With this show, she shines a spotlight on their experiences, their taboos, the difficult but also transformative path of their journey. We are partnering for the first time with Théâtre des Martyrs to present the new creation of the company What’s Up. After the documentary form of Is there life on Mars?, Héloïse Meire creates this time a fiction based on the collected testimonies. To relate and question the workings of the relationship between caregiver and cared-for, she works on stage with expressive full masks, both precious tools for acting and powerful vectors of imagination. In co-presentation with Théâtre des Martyrs.
