CinemaHouse of Memory / by Basil Al-RawiHouse of Memory / is an immersive Virtual Reality experience by artist Basil Al-Rawi. Based on photographs and oral testimonies from the Iraq Photo Archive, he transforms archival material into a virtual space where memories can be revisited and explored.
In this 15-minute experience, you encounter personal stories of Iraq in the 1970s, as remembered by those who lived there. Through voices and images, Iraq emerges as a space of cultural richness and everyday life, shaped by memory and displacement of its people. The work offers a rare perspective on Iraqi history and diaspora experience.
Basil Al-Rawi works across photography, moving images, sculpture and digital technologies, exploring memory, identity and archival storytelling. The project was developed as part of his PhD research at the Glasgow School of Art.
House of Memory is part of Ireland's cultural programme for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

CinemaClub KidA wayward thirty-something, part-time party organiser, part-time drug dealer, played by the director himself, suddenly finds himself with a 10-year-old son, Arlo, whose existence he was unaware of, and even though he was convinced he'd never slept with a woman. CinemaNazaNAZA by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the makers of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, is a revealing film about the systems behind the large-scale civilian casualties in Gaza. On the rooftops of Tel Aviv, far from the war zone, Israeli soldiers hold secret conversations at night. Step by step, it becomes visible how the army and intelligence services determine who is a target, which technologies and procedures are deployed, and how many civilian casualties an attack is allowed to cost. Dozens to sometimes hundreds of Palestinian civilians can be considered an acceptable price for eliminating a single target. The film thus poses the painful question: how can the killing of innocent civilians become so normalized within a military apparatus that it is no longer viewed as a moral or legal problem? The title refers to Nezek Agavi, ‘collateral damage’, the Israeli military term for the expected number of civilian casualties from an airstrike. The term thus symbolizes the dehumanization deeply ingrained in the system: civilian deaths are not a tragic side effect, but a foreseen and accepted part of military operations. NAZA premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where the film won the Special Jury Prize.Sun 1 Nov · 19:30–20:50Cinéma Aventure · Brusselsfrom €7.80

CinemaPerro PerroWhile on holiday, Juan finds a stray dog. This man-animal, initially fearful, reveals a gentle, beautiful, tender, and docile side. Juan takes him in, bathes him, feeds him, and a mutual affection develops between the two.

Package 1: Floating with the Spirits + Bodies of Water
This programme brings together two poetic VR experiences that explore the relationship between the body, nature, and the invisible forces that shape our lives. Floating with the Spirits immerses us in the rituals of Mexico's Day of the Dead to discover how memory, spirituality, and community connect the living and the dead. Bodies of Water shifts the focus to physical presence, using dance and water to explore themes such as identity, vulnerability, and transformation. Together, these works offer a sensory journey that encourages the viewer to think about cultural traditions, the meaning of the body, and our connection to the natural world.
Package 2: The Great Escape + Travelling While Black
This programme combines a poetic fiction VR with a powerful documentary to explore questions about freedom, identity, and societal structures. The Great Escape embodies three plants attempting to break free from routine. Through their journey, we explore themes of autonomy, imagination, and the limits of individual agency. Traveling While Black reveals these ideas in reality through the historical and ongoing impact of racial segregation and discrimination in the United States. These two VR films create a dialogue between metaphors and lived experiences to reflect on what freedom means, how social conditions shape lives, and the importance of learning from the histories of inequality.Tue 10 Nov · 13:00Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts · BrusselsUntil 2 Apr 2027

CinemaDentro - Elsa AmielIn a high-security prison in Tuscany, inmates create a baroque and flamboyant theatre.
Since 1988, men serving long sentences in Volterra have rehearsed, read and performed under the direction of Armando Punzo. Born in prison, the Compagnia della Fortezza has become one of Italy's most singular theatre companies, earning a Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale.
Elsa Amiel takes us into their rehearsal room, onto the stage and on tour, staying close to the collective work of bodies, voices and imagination. CinemaNova '78 - Aaron Brookner & Rodrigo AreiasAn extraordinary moment of 1970s American counterculture, shot on 16mm and unseen until today.
In New York in 1978, the Nova Convention brought together a constellation of artists around writer William S. Burroughs: Patti Smith, Frank Zappa, Allen Ginsberg, Laurie Anderson, Anne Waldman and Philip Glass. Long thought lost, this footage was rediscovered and restored between 2012 and 2024, capturing an explosion of ideas and forms where poetry, music, performance and cinema collide.
But Nova '78 does more than bring a legendary event back to life. Beneath the artistic ferment, the fractures of an era emerge: political fears, threats of repression and the struggles already running through American society.Fri 13 Nov · 21:15–22:40Bozar - Centre for Fine Arts · Brussels
